It is known to everyone that Iranian women have chosen not to be forced
to wear the hijab as a symbol to affirm their freedom and their right to
self-manage their lives. They do not accept that their body is
considered an object of sin and that they have to hide it to put
themselves at the service of men who in turn would not be able to
repress their aggressive sexual instincts. Many Iranian men have
understood and share the offensive content of this conception of
man-woman relationships and support Iranian women in their struggle.
What the West should and could do is not to ban the use of the hijab by
law, but to more forcefully create equal conditions for women,
supporting them together with all the others, through the access of
their children to nurseries, organization of literacy and acculturation
courses, helping them as should be the case for all other women in cases
of domestic violence, making available and allowing the use of reception
facilities, promoting their access to work, the availability of
affordable housing: all this because freedom is built in concert with
equality and the liberation of material needs.
If this were done, we would realize how the Iranian revolution is an
integral part of a social revolution which is not only a demand for
freedom for women, but a request to change the social and productive
relationships of an entire society, an integral part of the eternal
class struggle between capital and labor, and this is the real reason
for the lack of convinced support for the revolution of the women and
men of Iran.
Acting solely and predominantly on the level of religious freedom,
simply by prohibiting the use of the hijab in public spaces in European
countries, allows religious and cultural Muslim components to be able to
pose as oppressed from the point of view of customs and religious
freedom, which has the effect of fueling victimhood connected to the
limits placed on the exercise of religious freedom, which is thus
strengthened. Religious freedom must instead be guaranteed, allowing
communities to bring out their prayer guides from within themselves,
regardless of the indications of any state authority made by the
countries of origin.
At a time when we collectively believe that the protection of minors is
right, and that in the name of this it is possible to prevent them from
being induced into early marriage by their parents, or infibulated in
the name of tribal traditions, we believe compulsory education is a duty
of boys and girls and their right to access the highest levels of
education, the protection of their physical and psychological integrity,
and in all this we do not see what violation of individual freedom there is.
The integration policies adopted in the various countries would gain in
effectiveness and concreteness with the aim of inducing everyone to
respect everyone's religious freedom, as well as the right not to
profess any religion, a much more complex objective that can be pursued
and achieved. only by offering the tools for discussion, reflection,
education in dialogue and personal autonomy.
Upon closer inspection, it is a question of following a common path to
constructively address the liberation from the waste of paternalism that
permeates the Western vision of a large part of man-woman relationships.
Hence the need to develop a common path of reflection that ignores and
does not require the appointment of a triad of "experts" who will guide
it in the name and on behalf of a cowardly and pusillanimous Minister of
Education and Merit.

What is needed is the commitment of everyone!
