Declaration of the CGT Secretariat of International Relations for the
celebration of 30 years of the public uprising of the EZLN. A date thatilluminated the eyes of worthy and rebellious people around the world.---- On January 1, 1994, planet Earth woke up to surprising news. Insoutheastern Mexico, in the State of Chiapas, there had been anindigenous and peasant uprising that had a message for humanity: "Neveragain will a world without us!" The Zapatista Army of NationalLiberation (EZLN) made a bold move and publicly presented itself insociety through columns of free women and men willing to conquer theworld. It was the so-called "war against oblivion", which shook, amongother things, the foundations of a left that was battered in a time inwhich it seemed that we had reached the "end of history". Zapatismoreversed the trend in a sudden manner. From the Lacandona jungle hisfresh voice reached the factories, workshops and pits; schools anduniversities; communities and collectivities; the peasant lands;artistic companies, social centers; class unions... The EZLN thatJanuary 1, 1994 raised awareness, encouraged debates and stimulatedstruggles at a global level. Nothing was ever the same again."The word that was born within these mountains, the Zapatista mountains, found ears that gave it shelter, took care of it and launched it againso that it could go far and go around the world." EZLNOur union felt appealed by the Zapatista call from the first moment.Hundreds of companions, CGT militants of all ages and professions, committed themselves since January 1 to the struggle of the Zapatistacommunities. The libertarian and feminist message, the indigenousworldview attached to the Earth and the rejection of capitalistperversion connected with our organization and militancy from the firstmoment. The colors red and black once again inspired entire generationswilling to fight "for a new time of life." Since then we have alwaysbeen by our brothers side by side: learning from them, listening totheir voices, spreading their messages, traveling to their communities, participating in the organization of their visits to the Spanish State, showing solidarity when they have been repressed, supporting their"intercontinental meetings" projects. That uprising and that power ofthe word illuminated numerous struggles against capitalist globalizationin all corners of the planet. We carry our commitment to Zapatismo in our skin because the threads ofits resistance connect with the history of our struggle, with the sharedenthusiasm for a social revolution that is based on the same demandsthat the First Declaration of the Lacandona Jungle demanded: work ,land, shelter, food, health, education, independence, freedom, democracy, justice and peace. The everlasting cry of Land and Freedom, the same one that motivated a revolution in July 1936 against tyrannyand exploitation in our country. The same spirit that continues toencourage us as an organization to fight every day for a more justworld, where exploitation is defeated."Anywhere in the world, at any time, any man or woman rebels and ends upbreaking the clothes that conformity has woven for them and thatcynicism has colored them gray. Any man or woman, of any color and inany language, says and is told: 'Enough!'" EZLNThus, today, January 1, 2024, when the world is going through wars andgenocides like that of Palestine, when the injustices of capitalismspread, producing deaths at the borders and ecological disasters, whendrug trafficking and parapolitics seem stronger than ever, Wheninjustices are planned by the State as in Argentina, from the CGTInternational Relations Secretariat we renew our commitment to theZapatista struggle, with its collective intelligence, with the strengthof its indomitable hands and arms, with its message of liberation forhumanity . The CGT as an anarcho-syndicalist organization of free peoplecommitted to social transformation and the emancipation of the workingclass will always be with the struggle of the "bottom left". The EZLNlaunched a fight against neoliberalism 30 years ago that remainsessential today for the people of the planet. This new year we arecelebrating the 30th anniversary of the Zapatista uprising together withour comrades in the rebel communities, as we have come so many times, tocontinue walking together, so that they feel our fraternal embrace.Everything for everyone!Democracy, freedom and justiceAnother world is possible30 years of Resistance and RebellionLong live the EZLN!https://cgt.org.es/declaracion-de-cgt-por-los-30-anos-del-levantamiento-zapatista-1-de-enero-1994-2024/_________________________________________A - I N F O S N E W S S E R V I C EBy, For, and About AnarchistsSend news reports to A-infos-en mailing listA-infos-en@ainfos.ca
