Another school year is approaching the beginning and, once again, public
education workers in the state of Mato Grosso, in a temporary contract
situation, suffer from the lack of respect on the part of Seduc/MT. If
the 7 years of salary freeze were not enough, a period in which the cost
of living and survival in the state became extremely high, the
educational policy has been to increase the overload and make the lives
of those who work in schools more precarious. Those who survive in a
temporary contract situation, due to the lack of a public competition
that really meets the needs of the more than 700 schools in the state,
have suffered from the immeasurable lack of respect when going through
the selection process.

Governor Mauro Mendes (União Brasil) has been applying, since his first
term, through the State Department of Education, policies that aim to
destroy public education. It intensifies the precariousness and overload
of the functional lives of education workers; extends the policy of
militarizing several schools and handing them over to the private
sector. Millions of dollars are spent on virtual platforms, structured
materials - ignoring the material that was delivered, free of charge, by
the National Book and Teaching Material Program (PNLD) - and
partnerships with Google and the Plurall system completely outside the
reality of public education in the state. At the same time, it
intensifies the salary freeze and deceives the category with promises of
a salary bonus (14th salary, depending on functional performance).
Logically, workers, with years of salary freezes and material needs
knocking on their doors, end up submitting to pressure from those at the
top of the bureaucratic hierarchy - in many cases, management that is
aligned with government policy, forgetting that their Lives are also
harmed by such submission to this process of precarious living and
physical and mental illness.

If the functional life of permanent employees (public servants) has
become increasingly threatened, that of female and male workers under
contract has become increasingly worse over the years. Reduction of
people for nutrition, cleaning, surveillance, those responsible for
monitoring PWDs, administrative technicians, yard agents and, of course,
teachers. The technical and school support parts, as in other states,
are moving towards possible outsourcing. Teachers are, with each passing
year, more at risk of losing jobs due to the lack of competition that
meets the real needs of schools. The education department has acted with
the strategy of increasing the number of classes that employees can take
(additional classes) - 30-hour candidates (20 in class and 10 hours
allocated to "Activity Hour") are allocating, in many cases, up to 60
hours. The increase in working hours, for material survival, does not
pay for active hours and intensifies physical and psychological illness
and even family suffering due to cases of suicides recorded in recent
years in Mato Grosso, within the category. It allows, at various times,
an increase in working hours for permanent employees and, as a result,
interim employees lose jobs. In addition to this practice, the
partnership established between the Ensina Brasil institute and
Seduc/MT, which allows the hiring of people from other areas to occupy
teaching positions, as a supposed exchange, is bringing other
professionals to the classrooms for two years , filling vacancies that
would be for contract teachers and professors, actually trained in
teaching degrees.

The selection process carried out for the 2024 academic year, by
Selecon, from the beginning, presented several problems, explained by
them when taking the tests. Test locations without the appropriate
structure for the number of candidates to take the tests; change of test
location within less than 24 hours; lack of answers to take the
discursive test; unprepared inspectors and without objective information
for candidates; problems in the test correction process, which led to
several candidates being excluded from correction and classification due
to a technical error by Selecon itself when scanning the answer cards;
in addition to the enormous lack of organization and transparency with
the process of assigning roles and classes. The start of classes is
approaching and, once again, several schools will begin their normal
functions without the adequate number of workers to serve students
returning to school life.

The lack of objective information and professional disrespect is what
workers have experienced, once again, in this selection process promoted
by Seduc/MT and Selecon. The company's profitability is enormous and,
logically, this is what matters most to those who treat public education
as a commodity. Along with the entire policy of precariousness of life,
Mauro Mendes and his team gain strength with the practices of division
and weakening of the union struggle; continue, little by little, to make
the career law more flexible with the release of additional classes for
permanent employees and, with this, creating intrigues between the
entire category - Permanent x Interim -, spreading demobilization and
individualism, with the policy and discourse of meritocracy and
"productivity ".

The public competition is, in the current systemic reality, one of the
ways that guarantees a certain expectation of financial stability for
workers, in addition to guaranteeing the right to organize and union
struggle - something destroyed, years ago, in the sphere of the private
sector. We defend the opening of competitions, but we cannot wait for
the promises made by the current governments to be fulfilled. It is
through organization by workplace, union membership and activity, taking
to the streets with direct action and class protagonism that,
historically, rights have been achieved and guaranteed for the working
class - the oppressed and exploited sector in this class society.

We, at the Libertarian Socialist Organization (OSL), stand in solidarity
and stand alongside every worker in this fight for better living and
working conditions. Against the precarious policies of the
capitalist-statist system, only organization, combativeness and direct
action will guarantee rights.

For respect, transparency and working conditions for all workers and all
education workers under contract in Mato Grosso.
