Prudent democrats, even in the face of the extermination of almost30,000 defenseless Palestinians by the Israeli army, continue to invokeequal conditions and to reiterate that if we must talk and negotiate ahumanitarian truce (a few days of respite before other ferociousbombings) we need to distance ourselves from the aggression carried outby Hamas on 7 October against the State of Israel. ---- It is thus easyto convey the narrative of the Israeli counteroffensive, almost a sortof right to defense. ---- But did the Palestinian resistance (it wasn'tjust Hamas, but all the components were there) really made an incursioninto Israeli territory? Or is it not true that it entered one of themany Palestinian territories occupied, usurped, colonized by Israel?The difference is not insignificant: those lands were expropriated byforce of arms and with violence from the legitimate inhabitants, whowere expelled.When Northern Italy was occupied by the Nazis and the German army, noone dreamed and still dreams of saying that the partisans carried outactions against a legitimate state; they were acts carried out in a partof Italy occupied by a foreign army and governed by a puppet regime inits hands. The only ones who considered them terrorists and bandits wereprecisely the latter.Local respectability (but not only) continues to define Hamas as"terrorist" while asking the State of Israel to limit the damage to thepopulation of Gaza, as if 30,000 deaths were just a detail. At the sametime, however, it supports Ukraine from aggression.In wars cruelty and violence are the rule; Unfortunately, no resistanceforce escapes you.
