It all started when police began accusing his behavior of being somehow "suspicious." The teenager is of Mayan descent, speaking the Indigenous Mam language, and he repeatedly apologized to officers for being unable to understand what they were asking. Yet police continued to interrogate the boy — eventually searching his body without reason, in violation of his Fourth Amendment rights.
That's when one of the officers went into cardiac arrest, collapsing and later dying at a hospital. Medical examiners confirmed the death was entirely natural, and unrelated to the teenager who was sitting bound, shackled, and unable to harm anyone.
P.S. This teenager did not harm these officers, though police violated his unreasonable search-and-seizure rights. Yet so-called "law enforcement" in Florida are currently attempting to punish him, just because they can. Sign the petition.
