In the wake of the scandal surrounding the "Depardieu affair" andEmmanuel Macron's statements, the collective of feminist associationsand unions #feministstrike called for rallies in front of courts orprefectures this January 11 with the slogan: "Keep your old world, wewant one without sexist and sexual violence". ---- The TV show"Complément d'énquête" recently highlighted Depardieu's totallyunacceptable comments and actions towards women, reviving in the mediahis indictment in 2020 for rape and sexual assault.The list of all those implicated is only growing: we think in particularof the case of Benoit Jacquot denounced by Judith Godrèche. This revealsissues that go beyond the simple individual case: sexual assaultscommitted by celebrities are often known to everyone, and the systemprotects them. We can therefore only welcome the counter-tribunal signedby 600 artists in response to that of the elite of the seventh artpublished in Le Figaro fearing the end of Depardieu's career.But in any case, at the highest summit of the state, it had already beendecided: "Gérard Depardieu makes France proud", "there is thepresumption of innocence". A great admirer of the actor, Emmanuel Macrondenounces an alleged "manhunt". Not a word for the victims... Today wecould qualify the President of the Republic as a defender of the allegedattackers. In any case, this is not his first attempt. Let us rememberthe Darmanin affair, or that of Nicolas Hulot when he discreditedfeminists by comparing them to an "Inquisition society" making themexecutioners.By invalidating the words of the victims denouncing these words andthese actions, Emmanuel Macron can destroy the hopes of recognition ofthe harm suffered and the attempts at reconstruction of these women.Like his political record in matters of great national cause,self-proclaimed leader in the fight against violence against women, hehas once again emptied this absolute necessity of its meaning.A reversal of harmful stigmasOn November 25, there were still thousands of us in the streets toinfluence the course of events by demanding means to fight againstviolence against women and gender minorities. Many of us deal with itdaily, because unfortunately, the exercise of violence is not only theresponsibility of powerful people and public figures.But unlike anonymous everyday predators, known attackers, through theirinfluence and notoriety, legitimize the cowardice and violence of allothers as acceptable social norms.On March 8, we will be in the streets again, in particular to denouncethe violence carried out by our bosses and our hierarchical superiorsthrough our working conditions, the poor management of harassment andviolence in companies and institutions. Free domestic work for womenremains.
