Dear Luc,
In April, Network for Animals rushed emergency aid to disaster-stricken animals in Kenya and Zimbabwe, saved dogs from the horrendous hunting industry in Spain, funded food and medical care for rescued donkeys in the United Kingdom, and pulled off the miraculous relocation of a street dog from Tanzania.
None of our life-saving work for animals worldwide would be possible without YOU! Here are the animals our supporters helped last month. |

Bodmin Moor, United Kingdom Funding food, medical care, and stabling for rescued donkeysOn Bodmin Moor in England, three rescued donkeys named Luna, Mabel, and Poncho were at risk of starvation or being butchered for their meat to feed zoo animals because of their owner’s sudden illness. Our partner, the Hugs Foundation (HUGS), raced to their rescue and provided a haven for them at its sanctuary. But the donkeys desperately needed the support of animal lovers like you to ensure their survival and long-term care.
Through your generosity, we were able to help provide specialized nutrition, expert medical care, and comfortable stabling for Luna, Mabel, and Poncho. Thank you for giving three gentle rescued donkeys a second chance at a peaceful, happy life.

Arusha, Tanzania Relocating Tanzanian street dog, Kwikwi, to her forever home in the United KingdomNearly two years ago, we told you about Kwikwi, a pregnant street dog living in a storm drain on the treacherous streets of Arusha, Tanzania. There are no animal shelters in Arusha, so with your help, we rushed Kwikwi and her puppies to the offices of our partner, the Arusha Society for the Protection of Animals (ASPA), where they were given life-saving food, veterinary care, and shelter. However, the animals could not stay with them forever.
A kind-hearted family in the United Kingdom offered Kwikwi a safe and nurturing home on a beautiful, spacious farm. But with the prohibitively expensive journey spanning 7,700 kilometers (4,700 miles), we desperately needed your support to make this relocation a reality. Thanks to your donations, we covered the cost of Kwikwi’s flight from Tanzania to her forever home in the UK. Thank you for changing Kwikwi’s life forever.

Spain Supporting shelters and saving Spanish greyhounds (galgos) from the hunting industryEvery year, as many as 500,000 Spanish hunting dogs, known as galgos and podencos, are bred for the hunting industry – and tens of thousands are discarded and killed when they are no longer seen as ‘useful’. These innocent dogs are routinely hanged, drowned, and beaten to death.
In response to our efforts and public outcry, Spain has recently revised its animal welfare laws. However, this update tragically and deliberately overlooks hunting dogs, labeling them as "agricultural" animals.
Thanks to your generosity, we financially support three galgo rescue centers in Spain and are in an ongoing battle in Spanish courts to finally give galgos the legal protection they deserve. Together, we will continue to save lives and champion this cause, tirelessly working to prevent suffering and death for hundreds of thousands of galgos in Spain.

Zimbabwe Establishing sustainable, long-term food sources for drought-stricken donkeysIn April, Zimbabwe declared a state of disaster as a devastating drought ravages much of the region. Hundreds of hungry rescued donkeys in the care of our partner, Matabeleland Animal Rescue and Equine Sanctuary (MARES), are at grave risk of starvation. With the drought predicted to stretch well into 2025, we formulated a plan to establish a sustainable, long-term food source for the donkeys.
Our moringa tree project aims to cultivate 4,500 moringa trees to provide an ongoing food source to the animals in our care. Drought-resistant moringas are nutritious, fast-growing and, crucially, they do not require much water. We secured a 2,100-acre (863-hectare) farm with a 99-year lease which is expected to yield 3.5 tons of moringa mulch annually – enough to feed 500 donkeys every year.
Planting is already underway, and through your support, we were recently able to purchase additional saplings and will cover the cost of harvesting and pelletizing the food so it can be rushed to hundreds of hungry donkeys in need. You are actively supporting sustainable, long-term food sources for more than 500 donkeys – thank you!

Nairobi, Kenya Rushing emergency aid for animals affected by deadly floodsAs devastating flash floods pummel Kenya’s capital city of Nairobi, the toll on human and animal lives is heartbreaking. Over 1,000 farm animals have already perished, and the fate of countless domestic animals remains uncertain. Many cats and dogs have drowned amid this catastrophic disaster – and many more are trapped, scared, and alone.
Together with our partners, the Kenya Society for the Protection and Care of Animals (KSPCA) and the Kibera Youth for Stray Animals (KYSA), and through your support, we are working around the clock to rescue and provide sanctuary for flood-stricken animals in Kenya. Your generosity enabled us to act fast and provide crucial supplies like food, blankets, and additional dog crates to accommodate the influx of rescued animals. Thank you for being a lifeline for Kenya’s animals in their darkest hour of need – your compassion is making a real difference!

Bulawayo, Zimbabwe – Melody the miracle donkey reminds us why we fight for animals! Melody was rescued by our partner, MARES, after suffering terrible abuse that left her blind and unable to stand. Shortly after her rescue, we discovered she was pregnant. Against all odds, Melody made a miraculous recovery and in February, she gave birth to a healthy little filly named Tazzie Tazz. Both mom and foal are doing so well - see for yourself! |

Harare, Zimbabwe – Keeping the FAF animal shelter running during blackouts. The Friend Animal Foundation (FAF) is Zimbabwe’s only private, no-kill shelter, and cares for 460 dogs, 130 cats, goats, sheep, and chickens. Unfortunately, where FAF is located, the electricity is unreliable, affecting the supply of food and water for the animals. Thanks to our Gloria's Little Acts of Kindness program, we replaced a broken compressor in their freezer room and purchased a generator to keep everything running during blackouts. Read more. |
