Commission: ---- Putin's Russia is deploying military troops on the
borders of Ukraine with the threat of intervention to counteract this
country's movement towards Europe and especially NATO, with the
possibility of positioning missiles in this area aimed at Russia. ----
On the other hand, the US and Great Britain, with the European Union
(EU) in tow, position NATO military troops (with the presence of Italian
troops on the front line with an estimated cost so far of 78 million
euros) against the threat of Russian intervention.
Threats to war action are a small step compared to the unimaginable and
dramatic consequences of an international conflict for which the
Ukrainian people would pay more than anyone else. The persistence of a
conflictive situation increases energy costs, causing poverty in our
society, collapse of social services, housing emergency, exponential
increase in bills and basic necessities.
War must always be rejected by workers, whose interests are opposed to
those of those who benefit from it.
Grassroots unionism, on the occasion of the strike on October 11, has
put the fight against military missions abroad and war expenses on the
agenda. It is necessary to activate mobilizations to counter war
operations around the issue of Ukraine and withdrawal of Italian
military missions from that area.
We are facing two blocks divided by imperialist interests (geopolitical
control of the territory) and economic interests (gas supply and sale).
We know the hegemonic and authoritarian goals of Putin's Russia. We also
know the hegemonic and falsely democratic goals of the US and allies
(Great Britain, EU) that hide behind the anachronistic military presence
of NATO.
In the unfortunate hypothesis that the Ukrainian situation descends into
the barbarity of war of international dimensions, the Italian Union of
Trade Unions will proclaim a GENERAL STRIKE of protest.
No more war expenses.
No to Italy's participation in the imperialist war between Russia and
the USA.
For socially useful spending to support health, education and reduce the
increase in the costs of energy and basic necessities services
