WORLD WORLDWIDE GERMANY SUDAN - news journal UPDATE - (en) Germany, Die Platform: Six months of solidarity work: Update on the campaign for the Sudanese anarchists (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

The international campaign for the Sudanese anarchists began six months
ago. We have now published a joint report with our sister organizations
on the current status, which we are documenting here. ---- Content
Warning: This text is about, among other things, sexual violence and
death. ---- In August 2023, we, anarchist organizations from five
continents, launched an international solidarity campaign. Its goal was
and is to support Sudanese anarchists fleeing the war and repression in
their country and to ensure that they arrive safely in a destination
country of their choice. It has now been six months since our first call
for solidarity. With this short text we want to give a report on the
current situation and the continuation of our campaign.

First the most important thing: The majority of the small group of
anarchist comrades with whom we have been in contact since 2022 and who
we have been supporting on their way into exile since last year have now
managed to leave Sudan. However, a few of the people we support are
still in the country and continue to be active in the resistance
committees there. Here they work, among other things, to support
displaced people. The resistance committees help women in refugee camps
to form their own committees to defend themselves. They also
independently organize activities for children and young people because
there is currently no school due to the war. But working under the
military emergency law is dangerous. Our local comrades need support to
leave the country because the political situation for activists and
revolutionaries is becoming increasingly uncertain and there are many
arbitrary arrests. The terrible news that recently reached us showed how
dangerous the situation is: while trying to flee the capital Khartoum,
our comrade Sarah was raped and murdered by members of the Rapid Support
Forces (RSF). We share the deep pain of our comrades over this loss.

The fact that we have been able to carry out international solidarity
work so far - albeit to an extremely limited extent - is thanks to the
great support of many organizations and individuals from all parts of
the world. With their help, we were able to significantly exceed the
original fundraising goal of $2,000. At this point we would like to
express our warmest thanks to all the people who supported this campaign
and put their solidarity into practice!

However, the costs of our project also significantly exceeded
expectations. The main reason for this is the extremely unstable and
worsening situation in Sudan. The war between the Sudanese army and the
RSF militia has been going on for almost a year now. With each passing
month the fighting continues to intensify. Over 14,000 people have
already been killed. More and more parts of the country are being drawn
into the fighting, more and more blood is being shed, and more and more
people are being displaced. Mass exodus and war have led to an
unbearable famine that is getting worse every day. The lives of hundreds
of thousands of people are at stake. It is a game that is also played by
international actors. The weapons used by the RSF against the civilian
population partly come from funding from the European Union, which used
the militia as a border force in the service of migration defense for at
least several years and upgraded it for this purpose and is very likely
still doing so (1,2) . There is currently increasing evidence that the
United Arab Emirates, for example, is supplying the RSF with highly
developed weapons systems in order to keep the war alive (3).

In addition to the war in our own country, the repressive border regimes
of the surrounding countries are also making it difficult for our
comrades to escape from Sudan. The prices for VISAs, for example to
enter Egypt, our northern neighbor, have skyrocketed. The few remaining
transport routes have also become enormously more expensive. A large
part of the money raised by the campaign has therefore already been
spent. In order to enable our last contacts to escape from Sudan and to
finance the onward journey of the other comrades, we need more money. We
will therefore intensify our campaign efforts again in the next few
months. In some regions, our organizations will spread the campaign,
which has so far been primarily digital, much more locally.

to help break the blanket of silence spread by governments and their
press about events there.

We call on all trade unions, social and political organizations and all
individuals in solidarity to stand with the Sudanese anarchists and
continue to support the campaign. Spread them throughout your
organizations and movements. Use all public channels available to you.
Donate to the campaign. Every form of help counts.

United against war and repression!
International solidarity with the Sudanese anarchists!

New stage of the solidarity campaign for the Sudanese anarchists!

In August 2023 we launched an international solidarity campaign together
with our anarchist sister organizations. Its goal was and is to support
Sudanese anarchists fleeing the war and repression in their country and
to ensure that they arrive safely in a destination country of their
choice. Recently, we and our sister organizations provided insight into
the current status of the campaign in a new text and announced that we
would continue it.

As a platform, we want to intensify our efforts in international
solidarity work in the coming months, particularly in German-speaking
countries. In this new stage, the campaign, which has so far been
present primarily digitally, will be distributed much more locally in
our region. To this end, we have had posters, flyers and stickers
printed over the last few weeks, which we want to distribute in small
quantities in political spaces throughout our region in order to make
the campaign visible locally. We urgently need your help for this: Do
you know an area in your city where people really need to hear about the
solidarity campaign? Write us an email to kontakt@dieplattform.org and
we will send you material! Of course, you will also find the materials
on the information tables of our local groups in the future. You can
also purchase the poster there for a donation to the campaign.

We also developed a lecture with the help of the great Sudanese
activists from "Sudan Uprising" from Berlin. This is about the modern
development of Sudan, the Sudanese revolution of 2018 and the current
situation in the country. We want to give this lecture in as many cities
as possible to draw attention to the country's largely unknown history
and revolutionary movement. And to break through the blanket of silence
about the war and the humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan. Of course, we
will also use the events to collect donations for the comrades. Here too
we depend on your help. Are you interested in organizing a lecture with
us at your location? Then write us an email about that too! If we cannot
come to your place, we will be happy to send you the materials for the
event so that you can do it without us with a little training. The main
thing is that the message spreads, more people find out about the
campaign and decide to support the comrades with a donation.

You don't have a room where you can display materials or the opportunity
to organize a lecture? Then simply donate yourself or spread the
campaign to comrades and friends via your channels. Every form of help
counts and is an important contribution to international solidarity.
Only together can we manage to support our comrades on their way into exile!

United against war and repression!
Let's continue to support the Sudanese anarchists!
