Since March 11, Administrative Education Technicians (TAEs) workers at
universities and federal institutes have been on strike for better
wages, working conditions and against the scrapping of universities and
federal institutes. ----- TAEs make up the majority of federal employees
and represent almost 20% of the workforce, totaling around 200,000
workers, both active and retired, but they receive the worst salaries.
---- EDUCATION STRIKE TO ADVANCE DEMANDS AND STOP PRECARIZATION!
Joining the technical workers, teachers and students from dozens of
universities and federal institutes also joined the strike in April.
Thus, unifying and strengthening the fight for education.
Radicalize to change
Even in the face of an unprecedented strike, which already affects at
least 47 federal educational institutions in all regions of the country,
the Lula (PT) government still refuses to pay better salaries and
increase public funding for federal education. So far, it has only
presented lowered and unacceptable proposals.
As the strike progresses and the PT government becomes embroiled, which
at no point commits to repealing the policies of destruction of Public
Education that it inherited from Temer and Bolsonaro, one of the demands
of the strike movement, the radicalization of the struggle becomes
necessary. It is up to the people to organize assemblies, protests,
occupations, pickets and increase pressure.
The federal government's negligence only shows that much more will be
needed for the strike movement to achieve victory. Without
radicalization, without combative unions, workers and strong student
movements, the strike runs the risk of ending without relevant
achievements. If you don't scream, the government won't listen!
The 1917 strike as an example
The workers' strike in 1917, with a strong anarchist influence, was
fundamental for the achievement of basic labor rights, such as the
8-hour day, prohibition of child labor, weekly paid rest, maternity
leave, retirement and paid vacation.
At the time, thousands of striking workers paralyzed their workplaces,
held popular assemblies and attacked their bosses with pickets and
direct actions, such as stealing flour from factories that grew rich at
the expense of the blood and sweat of the working class and their
children. .
Dozens of them died in bloody clashes, many others were harshly
persecuted, but by radicalizing the struggle and facing the armed forces
and repression of the State, they won historic rights.
May the story written in 1917 serve as an inspiration to the workers and
students who are on strike today. There is no conquest without
confrontation, there is no victory without a fight!
