During the last few months, the brand new Chilean progressivism,
self-proclaimed heir to the student mobilizations of 2006 and 2011, hasconfirmed - once again - the historical role that liberal democracies
play when facing the worsening of capitalist misery. The "government of
the people" is nothing more than a chimera vanished between repressive
laws, state corruption, preventive prisons and the sacrifice of three
peons - traitors to their class - to save "the queen" or, rather, the
General Director of Carabineros, Ricardo Yáñez.
As we well know, Yáñez was being prosecuted for the Human Rights
violations carried out in the context of the revolt of October 18, 2019.
Said subject was on the verge of abandoning his position in order not to
hinder the investigative process, with the date deadline May 7. However,
a few days ago the champions of misinformation found new blood to stick
their poisonous verbiage into: the death of three police officers.
Apparently, those three henchmen were sacrificed as useful fools with
the aim of extending the mandate of their general, who, paradoxically,
had his formalization hearing postponed for 5 months. For her part, the
illustrious daughter of the joy that never came and current Minister of
the Interior, Carolina Tohá, assured that: "at this moment there can be
no change in the command of the police, because it would be a blow to an
institution that is very hard hit.». And of course it is hit, yes, by
the sale of weapons to drug trafficking, the murder of young people like
Maximiliano Rodríguez, the 34 deaths during the social outbreak and a
long etcetera.
Television and the press, undisputed enemies of the people, have only
provided a breeding ground for the situation. Headlines such as "Attacks
and violence: this is the dangerous P-72 highway, where three police
officers were murdered in Chile", from El País, deepen the feeling of
insecurity that the fifth estate has established in people's
subconscious. Thus, the Mapuche, migrant and criminal tone steals the
-un-informative stage of the morning shows and news programs.
Along these lines, we believe it is important to also delve into the
alleged security crisis and the biased aggravating factor that the media
has positioned: the migration phenomenon. Beyond the statistics, it is a
fact that the topic "security" became the most important topic regarding
the concerns of our class; The violent actions of organized crime, the
spread of drug trafficking, kidnappings and hitmen have been the driving
force of widespread panic that, unfortunately, was channeled through
racism and xenophobia.
According to a report in Doble Espacio magazine, "only 5,722 foreigners
occupy Chilean prisons, 12.1% of the total of 47,360 inmates, which is
equivalent to 0.38% of the country's migrant population, according to
the Jesuit Migrant Service.». However, people like Sergio Mancilla -
political advisor to Gloria Neveillán - and the deputy for Antofagasta,
Jaime Araya, affirm that policies should be promoted that criminalize
migration through non-authorized steps, even going so far as to request
a project that openly considers it a crime. . For his part, Araya did
not hesitate to point out that the prisons are overcrowded mostly with
Colombians and Venezuelans, when the statistics of the gendarmerie
itself - a miserable institution that would have no reason to camouflage
that - show otherwise.
Now, whatever the reason for the penitentiary rates, when push comes to
shove, racist and xenophobic dogma is intertwined with the
criminalization of poverty to, at the end of the day, send the children
of the people behind bars regardless. nationality is a shambles. In
fact, the poor from there and here congregate in common spaces where,
despite their diverse individual trajectories, they generate a
collective experience that leads to a unified response to the crisis of
capital. This is visible in the land occupations, the street trade, and
even in the towns themselves where an important part of those who run
the businesses and the stalls at the fairs arrived from the most varied
latitudes and share, side by side, the tyranny. of wage labor and
capitalist misery with the local oppressed class.
Consequently, the Nain-Retamal Law, the Anti-Taking Law and the State
Internal Security Law are the materialization of monitoring and
punishing in the figure of a police State that displays its repressive
itinerary. We imagine that the "comrade president", Gabriel Boric Font,
is not far from enacting an anti-poor law, since, apparently, he
despises our class as much as his father, Luis Boric Scarpa, former
manager of Enap Magallanes and renowned Christian democrat, as well as a
very famous enemy of the ground-floor enapinos or, as they called
themselves, "changarines".
In this way, between the historical-family legacy and the excuse of
dismantling organized crime, it is very likely that a permanent State of
Exception will be decreed that - more directly than indirectly - seeks
to keep us away from the streets, protests and any questioning of order.
established. For some, the era of capital is here to stay, like an
omnipotent god that irremediably guides our destinies towards the abyss;
For others, this system is one more in the long history of humanity and,
as in the past, we only need a sudden blow to trigger the system's fall.
The latter will not happen overnight; the interweaving of experiences
must be projected consistently over time. To this day, there are
innumerable popular struggles that are germinating in the territories;
from the housing movements to the offensive against job insecurity and
life itself; from the union dispute to the confrontation with
extractivism and the elimination of patriarchy.
Currently, the scenario of greatest social conflict has been led by
residents from different places in the Chilean region. Thus, in the face
of the urban housing crisis, the respective mobilizations have brought
to the fore the failure of the subsidiary model, implemented during the
dictatorship and administered by progressivism, which only fed and
continues to feed the businesses of the Chilean Chamber of Construction.
As the Santiago Anarchist Federation we salute the aforementioned
struggles of the residents and highlight the multiple displays of
dispute they have had, where land occupation, street mobilization and
self-management surpass welfare and clientelism.
In closing, it should be noted that we are experiencing a complex
context. A cold winter is approaching us that brings up the unworthiness
of the public health system and, at the same time, the written and
digital media incessantly advocate for the strengthening of the
repressive apparatus. Along with this, the electoral odyssey approaches
us hand in hand with a disgusting populism that does not distinguish
between the cheap copy of European progressivism and the right wing that
opts for a recalcitrant conservatism - Pinochetism - in the Make America
Great Again style.
Faced with this scenario, there is nothing left but to continue
promoting and building a political alternative based on the creation and
strengthening of popular organizations, as well as the development of
class autonomy, the depatriarchalization of all our practices and
community management as engine of life We believe that the latter should
be the programmatic axis to address the range of needs that afflict us,
that is, community management of health, education, housing, food, among
others. Only the spread of organized communities and neighborhood ties
will make this imminent crisis of capital a safer and more bearable period.
