WORLD WORLDWIDE US USA - New York NY - New York City NYC - the city THE CITY - Library funds tentatively back, city tax liens, McGuinness Boulevard
Dear New Yorkers,
The City Council and the mayor’s office are set to shake hands Friday on a more than $111 billion budget — one that restores funding to city libraries and reverses some previous cuts to the Parks Department, according to people familiar with the negotiations.
The new budget restores more than $58 million to the city’s three library systems, which could allow for Sunday service to return. It also brings back another $53 million for other cultural institutions, like museums, according to Speaker Adrienne Adams and Mayor Eric Adams.
And it adds $15 million for parks maintenance and cleaning jobs at 100 “hot spots” in 61 parks across the city that are known to need more attention.
Negotiations came just days before a June 30 midnight deadline.
Read more here about the budget deal, and the contentious negotiations that preceded it.
Friday's Weather Rating: 10/10. WE ARE SO BACK!!! High temperatures in the upper 70s with dew points in the 40s (!!) and a great breeze. There are a few clouds, but these kinds of days are exceedingly rare in late June. The vibes are immaculate!

Residents of a Sugar Hill rowhouse could lose their home when the derelict and foreclosed property goes to auction. It’s an example of what can happen under the city’s current system of selling tax liens to private investors, who attempt to collect on the debt and have the power to foreclose on properties. When the Harlem property is auctioned, a new owner may not allow residents to remain. But advocates say it doesn’t have to be this way.
The candidate backed by opponents of a McGuinness Boulevard redesign in Greenpoint was thoroughly trounced in Tuesday’s primary. Now, supporters of incumbent Assemblymember Emily Gallagher are hoping her win sends a clear message to the mayor and City Hall: the neighborhood wants the long-promised roadway improvements from which the Adams administration has been retreating.
