Today is the day. After weeks of extensive media coverage - with
rallies, posters, TV spots and social media postings - we are supposed
to cast our vote for one of the parties in the European elections. Many
people are asking themselves who they should vote for. ---- Many parties
for the same system ---- At first glance, the individual parties seem to
differ greatly from one another. Some dress in turquoise and black and
talk mainly about security and order. Others, between yellow and pink
color elements, prefer to talk about the economy and digitalization. On
a green background, however, it is more about climate protection and
democracy. On a blue background, people are particularly nationalistic
and on a red background they are particularly social.
But colors, faces and empty slogans cannot hide the fact that the
parties are more alike than different. In the end, they all stand for
the same capitalist system. For the exploitation and oppression of the
masses for the benefit of the few. And logically, that also means what
goes with it: impoverishment, wars, environmental destruction.
Defense of democracy?
Since the rise of the right in Europe has been progressing ever more
rapidly, every election has been declared by the governing parties to be
a defensive battle for liberal democracy. No matter what we vote for -
we should just go and thwart the right's plans. Organizations from
emancipatory social movements such as Fridays For Future and many
influencers are also calling for people to vote.
We share the justified concerns of many, especially our migrant, female
or queer colleagues, neighbors and friends, about the rise of the right.
But we must not forget who helped make this rise possible. It was the
policies of the liberal parties, it was this system. What the AfD and
others are demanding - isolation, deportations, social cuts, rearmament
- is already being implemented by the governments today. We must
therefore under no circumstances associate ourselves with the liberal
parties and their system.
For a Europe of class struggle and revolution!
Instead, we must make our own position clear. Our perspective is neither
a nationalist-autocratic "Europe of fatherlands" nor a
liberal-democratic "Fatherland Europe". Our perspective is liberal
communism - the European federation of free municipalities and
self-managed companies in a free world society.
This society will not be on any ballot paper today. The only way to
achieve it is through social revolution. So instead of trusting that
some politicians will solve our problems, we must work to build the
forces of class struggle and revolution - in companies, neighborhoods,
schools, universities and everywhere else. That is what matters, not
whether we vote today or where we cast our vote.
