WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE GERMANY - news journal UPDATE - (en) Germamy, Die Platform: No extradition to Hungary: freedom for all anti-fascists! (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

For decades, the so-called "Day of Honor" in Budapest has been an annual

meeting point for right-wing extremists from all over Europe. They come
together to celebrate the resistance of fascist troops against the
advancing Red Army in 1945. ---- There have been anti-fascist protests
against the extreme right-wing meeting for many years. In February 2023,
there were also direct attacks on individual neo-fascists in the city
area. ---- In the wake of the protests, the Hungarian state has begun a
relentless witch hunt against the anti-fascist movement. It is trying
everything to get hold of it.

Considering the fact that the Hungarian state is led by the extreme
right-wing Orban government, this zeal of the Hungarian authorities is
no surprise. For years, the hike that was part of the celebration was
even financially supported by the Hungarian Hiking Association. Only
consistent anti-fascist intervention put an end to this.

What is remarkable about the manhunt against the anti-fascists is its
Europe-wide scope. The Hungarian state cannot only rely on the help of
the German and Italian authorities, who are carrying out house searches
of the anti-fascist movement in their countries on its behalf. It is
also negotiating with them the extradition of the arrested anti-fascists
to Hungary.

There they will face a trial whose outcome is already certain in advance
and long prison sentences under brutal conditions. The Italian
anti-fascist Ilaria S., who has already been extradited, reports
violence by the guards, poor hygiene, malnutrition and isolation.

Fortunately, Ilaria's imminent release is quite likely because she was
elected to the European Parliament. But the German anti-fascist Tobias
E. is still imprisoned in Hungary. Maya T. and Hanna S. from Germany and
Gabriele M. from Italy, who are in custody in their respective
countries, are at acute risk of extradition.

Even under the laws of this state, the anti-fascists should not actually
be extradited. This shows once again that these laws are not worth the
paper they are written on and that we cannot trust the state.

The Italian state has now decided against extraditing Gabriele. Ilaria's
reports on the conditions in prison and a video showing Ilaria being led
to court in handcuffs, leg irons and on a leash have led to great
political pressure.

Meanwhile, the German public prosecutor's office is using the
possibility of extradition to force the anti-fascists in hiding to turn
themselves in. The deal is: turn yourself in, then we won't extradite you.

The repression in the Budapest complex is unmistakably part of the
repression against active anti-fascists that has been increasing for
years. Extensive manhunts with countless house searches, years-long
court cases, long prison sentences. We have seen all of this more and
more in recent years. The current Europe-wide manhunt, including the
possibility of extradition, represents a new quality of repression in
this context.

The reason for the increasing repression is an increase in anti-fascist
resistance, which is in contradiction to the state's monopoly on
violence. In order to assert this, the state is reacting with all its might.

But we know: Anyone fighting against Nazis cannot rely on the state, and
in the anti-fascist struggle, all means are legitimate that lead to the
extreme right being effectively restricted in its options for action.

In order to put an end to the right, we must build an anti-fascist mass
movement. The ability to take militant action against the extreme right
is also central to this and must be fought for and defended today.

Our thoughts and so
