The Meloni government is trumpeting in the media an increase in
percentage of the workforce employed in Italy, certified by ISTAT. Thistime it was also some bodies of the so-called "opposition" that naively
believed it. ---- Yet they should also be aware that ISTAT, ever since
Berlusconi imposed one of his men at the helm of the Institute, has been
subservient to politics not so much because of the criteria with which
it conducts its investigations - which remain rigorous - but for the way
in which the data collected is exposed or "revealed" to the general
public, always favoring the visual angle of the governments in office.
To realize the deception it would be enough to weigh the data on
employment with those relating to the growth of the real economy, which
remains at the limit of subsistence; cross them with the GDP, which
remains in stagnation despite the market being drugged by PNRR funds,
and with salaries, which are at historic lows; and subject them to a
merciless comparison with those of the "recovery" underway throughout
Europe.
If we then add to this the boom in layoffs, i.e. large companies in
crisis, which currently involves over 100,000 workers in the
metalworking sector alone, and tens of thousands more in those most
linked to the ecological transition, which are not taking off,
threatening to increase in the next months due to a sharp drop in
orders, the picture becomes even bleaker.
But where's the catch?
The employment rate rises in April to 62.3%, which is a historical
record, because in one year 516,000 more people were employed, 70% of
whom are employed simply because they no longer benefit from early
retirement, and with the rest rises the percentage on the total due to
the simultaneous collapse of the demographic data (resulting from the
lower birth rate and the "escape" of young people from Italy): by
decreasing the overall population the percentage of employed people
surreptitiously increases!
ISTAT adds two other values: the unemployment rate, which has
drastically reduced, and the absolute poverty indicator, which has
instead increased. This means that among the employed, those engaged in
precarious, seasonal, often underpaid and illegal jobs are growing
significantly (also thanks to the end of the citizen's income).
INAPP, another statistical survey institute, certifies that 43% of new
entries to work take place with informal agreements and 22.3% with
fixed-term contracts. Such a bleak panorama can only foment the
avoidance of safety obligations and the growth of accidents at work.
Nothing but new jobs guaranteed by right-wing policies! What is
guaranteed in Italy is only fatigue, exploitation and death.
