| | | A Tragic Goodbye: Help Us Save Other Donkeys of South Africa. |
| | | Today, we are reaching out with heavy hearts and an urgent plea for help. Our new partner, Blindlove, based in South Africa, has been tirelessly working to rescue and care for abused and abandoned animals, conducting regular outreaches in remote areas where animals are in desperate need. Recently, they faced an incredibly challenging situation involving three donkeys requiring immediate medical attention. |
| | | | Last Saturday, during one of their outreach missions, Blindlove encountered three sick donkeys in a state of severe neglect. Our team at Animals First Aid, partnering with Blindlove, acted quickly to provide the necessary support. Two of the donkeys received critical care from Dr. Annie Mears of iThemba Wildlife and Conservation Services. She treated one donkey with painful abscesses on its face and hoof, administering long-acting antibiotics to aid its recovery. The second donkey, visibly thin and frail, was found to have a dead and blackened section of its tongue extending down its throat. Despite this grim discovery, Dr. Annie showed the owner how to feed him a nourishing ‘soupy’ meal, which the donkey appeared to enjoy. |
| | | Approximately $1,500 is needed to cover the veterinary expenses.Tragically, on Thursday, August 29th, we received the heartbreaking news that the little donkey with the dead tongue had passed away. Just before we arrived to check on him and bring additional feed, the owner called to say he had succumbed to his condition. Arriving shortly after and seeing his lifeless body was a devastating moment for everyone involved. Dr. Annie believes the donkey was simply too far gone by the time we intervened. This loss underscores the urgency of our mission and the need for immediate support. |
| | | The third donkey, suffering from a severe case of mange, is still awaiting treatment, which Dr. Annie will provide as soon as she returns in a few days. Additionally, Blindlove is also caring for two orphaned puppies whose mother was tragically poisoned, placing further strain on their already limited resources.
We also need your help to raise awareness about this critical issue. By sharing our appeal with your friends, family, and on social media, you can help us bring more attention to the plight of these donkeys and the dedicated work of Blindlove. Awareness is vital in combating animal abuse and ensuring that more animals receive the care they need.
