In Spain as in France, workers are doubly victims of both
ever-increasing prices and ever-deteriorating working conditions, with
bosses who are increasingly abusive. Exploitation is particularly
blatant in the food distribution sector: on the one hand, companies use
inflation as a pretext to make record margins, on the other hand, they
further increase their "profitability" by not paying overtime, or
sometimes even normal hours.
A group of Aldi workers in the Madrid region decided to say "Enough!"
and created a CNT-AIT union section. This section acts according to the
anarcho-syndicalist principles of solidarity, mutual aid and direct
action. Concretely, this means not expecting anything from the boss or
the State (in particular, not participating in the farce that is the
union elections), relying only on our own strength and that of other
colleagues and acting to denounce injustices. We let them speak to us to
explain how it works:
"In recent weeks, together with comrades from the CNT-AIT of Madrid, we
have visited different ALDIs in the Sierra de Guadarrama with the aim of
informing the workers of our demands. We have also taken the opportunity
to continue to disseminate the campaign "Against the high cost of
living" among customers, leaving stickers in all the supermarkets
visited. We have directly informed all the ALDI workers that we have
found, leaving them information leaflets that they can display on the
union signs of their respective stores. Finally, we have put up stickers
in the neighborhood.
Everything went smoothly and the workers were well received, which has
already allowed us to make new contacts."

To all ALDI workers
Faced with the constant violations of our rights and the company's bad
practices, a group of workers from the ALDI supermarket chain have
decided to organize themselves within the CNT-AIT, an organization with
over a century of experience and whose principles (mutual aid,
solidarity and direct action) seem to us to be the most effective and
consistent in the fight to improve our working conditions.
Day after day and with insufficient staff, we find ourselves faced with
demanding and poorly paid days while the company invoices millions of
euros. Even the most basic rights cannot be taken for granted. Basic
things like paying us overtime, or granting us days off with all the
overtime worked without letting them accumulate unjustifiably, creating
schedules that adapt to the daily schedules established by contract, a
count of hours worked at the end of each week that adapts to reality and
in which no hour is missing...
We are tired of having to constantly claim that the company recognizes
and pays us the hours and days worked, almost as if the boss hoped that
we would not notice and thus save our wages. And these are just a few
examples of the repeated abuse of our time and effort to earn a salary
with which we can live with dignity.
No matter what type of contract you have (CDD, CDI, etc.), no matter
where you work or what time your working day takes place, if you are an
ALDI employee and you are experiencing problems and/or want to improve
the situation you are experiencing at your workplace, contact our union
and organize with us.
But what are our demands?
- Consolidation of working hours by contract.
- Elimination of additional hours, replaced by overtime and paid as such.
- Increase in the basic salary for all categories.
- Greater compensation for working on Sundays and public holidays.
- More transport.
- Implementation of a reliable system for recording the hours of entry
and exit from work.
- No change in schedules without asking the people concerned about their
availability.
Faced with their abuses, let's organize!
