Every year, two million kangaroos are killed for their leather — more than any other type of mammal in the entire world. All this brutality and slaughter is just so people can sell these dead animals' skin — in particular, for fashion and sports, like high-end soccer cleats.
In many cases, these animals are killed in shocking ways that echo the cruelty seen in notorious hunts of other species worldwide, but on a much larger scale. Reports detail how the kangaroos are subjected to prolonged pain and distress, similar to how seals are massacred.
Despite the distressing practices involved, the U.S. remains one of the largest markets for kangaroo leather. Wildlife should respected, and their lives valued over corporate profits.
