Since December 7, 2021, in front of the Chronopost agency in Alfortville
in Val-de-Marne, nearly 200 undocumented workers have been holding apicket line and fighting to demand their regularization. They now have
only been refused by the prefecture, which is now counting on
repression. ---- Facing the State to maintain essential resources.
Thirty-two months of struggle! The 18 Chronopost strikers have increased
the number of demonstrations, rallies, and letters to the company and
its parent company (the La Poste group) as well as to subcontractors[1].
They gathered around them dozens of undocumented workers from other
companies, as well as strikers from a previous struggle in 2019 who had
not obtained regularization. SUD PTT, the departmental union Solidaires
94 and the collective of undocumented workers in Vitry support them.
In the construction sites for sorting and handling parcels, the
cascading subcontracting system is aggravated by xenophobic and racist
laws. La Poste is the parent company of Chronopost, which subcontracts
to Derichebourg, which in turn subcontracts hiring to a temporary
employment agency: "Derichebourg intérim". In terms of the legal
framework, the rights of foreigners are regularly reduced: the adoption
of the Darmanin "asylum immigration" law last January, with the votes of
the RN, has put migrant workers more and more at the mercy of employers!
And indeed the employers of the strikers have always refused to
acknowledge having hired and exploited them, they refuse to give them
the documents required for their regularization. However, La Poste was
condemned on December 5, 2023 by the Paris Judicial Court for failure to
comply with its duty of vigilance on the use of subcontracting.
The strikers also contacted the State, the sole holder of the power to
regularize and also the main shareholder of the La Poste Group,
therefore the principal and exploiter in chief. Refusal to receive
delegates, passing the buck between ministries and the prefecture,
maneuvers to try to divide or disperse the workers in struggle... Since
the beginning of the struggle, the Val-de-Marne prefecture has only
agreed to receive 32 files, and has only granted fifteen
regularizations, including four for the Chronopost strikers. The
situation seems deadlocked.
POWER BALANCE
Protests banned
On Friday, August 9, the prefecture banned the demonstration: the entire
Val-de-Marne police force is mobilized for the Olympic and Paralympic
Games, it says... while no event is taking place in the department. This
did not prevent it from deploying no fewer than fifty police officers,
several vehicles, and plainclothes personnel to the starting point. On
Tuesday, August 27, the prefecture issued a new ban on the
demonstration. But it was immediately overturned in court, a small
victory and a snub for the prefecture. The demonstration will take place
from the picket line to the Créteil prefecture.
Faced with intimidation, decay and attempts at division, the Chronopost
picket in Alfortville is holding firm and the strikers do not intend to
give up. They are an example of perseverance for our social camp and now
deserve a surge of solidarity! Let's echo their struggle more and the
scandal that their exploitation by the State represents!
