The repression of the pro-Palestine movement is nothing new in Germany.
For decades, voices of solidarity with Palestine have beensystematically silenced, especially if the people critical of the
Zionist state are of Palestinian origin or anti-Zionist Jews. Germany
has historically been one of the main suppliers of arms to the Zionist
state, but since October 7, the situation has worsened. ---- One year
after the offensive began, the German state continues to send weapons to
Israel and to provide political cover for the genocide and occupation in
Palestine. We cannot forget the historical and symbolic importance of
Germany being the only country to have presented itself as a
co-defendant in the trial brought by South Africa at the International
Court of Justice in The Hague for genocide.
Within its borders, pro-Palestine demonstrations, congresses
and events are
banned and/or brutally
dispersed by an increasingly violent police force; cultural and social
associations are
closed or outright banned;
Activists are singled out
in detailed reports on television and in the
public and private press and are branded
as dangerous Islamists while the criminal police raid
their homes and monitor them as if they were
potential jihadist terrorists.
And this is precisely the
idea that the German state, through
its servile allied press, is
trying to impose on its population:
that immigration is not only
to blame for all social problems, but also and very
especially has brought back something that has already been overcome in
Germany, "anti-Semitism"; that
solidarity with Palestine is, at
least, anti-German, as it goes against its
"reason of state" and the established social
order, if not directly
dangerous, as it has in its midst
radical left-wing anti-Semites
alongside Islamists. And this propaganda, in the most Goebbelsian style, is
partly having an effect. Racist immigration policies are at least
tolerated, if not welcomed, by a large part of the population.
Rhetoric that until recently only the extreme right-wing parties dared
to put on the table is now repeated daily by politicians from
practically all parties. The fantasies of re-emigration, i.e. mass
deportation and border closures, which shocked society a few months ago,
are now a reality carried out by the supposedly moderate parties that
make up the current government, which, in their desire to win votes for
Alternative für Deutschland and in their fight against "Islamism", have
made a pact with the Taliban and carried out a first deportation of
migrants to Afghanistan just a few weeks ago. The genocide in Gaza and
the strong solidarity movement with Palestine have brought to light what
many already knew, that Germany has never ceased to be an authoritarian,
colonialist, white supremacist power that tries to exterminate all forms
of political dissent and will defend the national and international
interests of the ruling classes no matter what. This time, the ones who
are paying
with their lives for the German imperialist zeal
are the Palestinian people.
Long live the struggle of the Palestinian
people. Long live international solidarity. Free Palestine
(from the river to the sea)!
