Will you give Disabled Animals a Second Chance in Tunisia?

Dear friends,

As we step into the season of giving, Animals First Aid (AFA) is thrilled to introduce you to an inspiring partner making an incredible impact in Tunisia: L’Arca di Noé – Hope Shelter.
Founded by the compassionate Maria Stella Tabascio Fricano, this beacon of hope in
Ariana, Tunisia, is dedicated to saving and caring for disabled dogs and those abandoned
due to illness or dire circumstances
. In a country where animal welfare is often neglected,
this shelter provides these animals with a second chance at life.

Animals First Aid is an IRS-designated 501(c)(3) charitable organization (tax ID# 99-1042428), with a public charity status under Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi). We are qualified to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts under Sections 2055, 2106, or 2522.

Maria Stella’s journey began in 1993 when her family moved to Tunisia from Italy and started a food business. Shocked by the inhumane treatment of stray animals by both citizens and local authorities, Stella couldn’t stand by. She initially worked as a volunteer, collaborating with municipalities to establish sterilization centers and shelters. While these efforts faced setbacks due to political instability, her resolve only grew stronger. Stella ultimately opened L’Arca di Noé, a sanctuary that now houses over 85 dogs and 30 cats, many of whom are disabled, abandoned, or mistreated. With a mission to offer first aid, care, and a safe haven.

Raising €2000 / $2000 for critical medicines, sterilization, food supplies, winter blankets and more.

Your continued support can transform lives for the animals at L’Arca di Noé – Hope Shelter in Ariana, Tunisia. This sanctuary is home to disabled and abandoned animals who would otherwise have no hope. Together, we can make a difference.

Here’s how your donations can help:

• €20 / $20: Provides life-saving medicine for a critically ill dog.

• €50 / $50: Feeds dozens of rescued animals for a week.
• €100 / $100: Funds sterilization for a female dog, preventing countless unwanted puppies.

If we can raise €2000 / $2000, we’ll be able to:

• Stock critical medicines like antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and vitamins for animals in dire need.

• Provide food supplies to sustain the shelter’s growing number of rescues.

• Improve shelter conditions with winter blankets, better flooring for disabled dogs, and materials to upgrade kennels.

Every contribution matters. Your generosity ensures that animals like those at L’Arca di Noé receive the love, care, and protection they deserve. Let’s reach this goal together and give these animals a brighter tomorrow!

Stella also works tirelessly to find these animals loving homes in Europe and beyond.
Tunisia’s landscape for animals is heartbreaking. With no animal protection laws and
state-sponsored efforts to eliminate stray populations, the cruelty animals endure is
unimaginable
. However, amidst this harsh reality, L’Arca di Noé has emerged as a sanctuary of love and care. Opened in January 2024, the shelter rescues dogs from mass slaughter, abandonment, and neglect. It specializes in caring for disabled animals—those paralyzed, blind, or suffering from congenital diseases—offering them a haven to heal, thrive, and hope for adoption.

At AFA, our mission is clear: to extend our reach to the world’s most vulnerable animals and provide them the love and care they deserve. This December, as we reflect on the lives we’ve touched, we’re reminded of the remarkable work we’ve accomplished together. Earlier this year, we partnered with Virginie Dhiab in Mahdia, Tunisia, helping her shelter hundreds of animals in desperate need. Today, we’re proud to expand our efforts with L’Arca di Noé,ensuring that even more animals in Tunisia receive life-saving care.

The challenges are immense. The shelter urgently needs essentials like food, winter
blankets, and medications to treat diseases like leishmaniasis
—a common affliction in
Tunisia. They also dream of improving their facilities, such as adding tiles to dog cubicles for comfort and hygiene, building quarantine areas, and providing proper shelters for their
ever-growing animal family.

Each dog at L’Arca di Noé comes with a story of resilience. From puppies orphaned after their mothers were slaughtered to disabled dogs overlooked by a society that often views them as burdens, these animals find safety and dignity here. The shelter ensures every resident receives proper veterinary care and love until they are ready to be adopted by a forever family.
