WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE GREECE SALONICA - news journal UPDATE - (en) Greece, Liberta Salonica: Strike gathering - General Strike November 20 (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

The current reality that shapes the bankrupt capitalist system and its

political leadership in Greece is characterized by a particularly
unaffordable cost of living for the social majority, precision in all
basic products and energy, combined with the real fixation of wages,
which neither by intellect they do not meet the level of the demands and
needs of survival. The EUR70 increase in the minimum wage is an obvious
mockery at a time when inflation is "galloping", reducing the purchasing
power of workers and indirectly devaluing the value of their work. In
fact, OECD data ranks Greece in the 4th position of the countries with
the most expensive food in the world (2nd in the European Union), while
at the same time it has the second most expensive price for gasoline
among the countries of the European Union.

Another basic survival problem for most of the world is the issue of
housing. Rent prices have skyrocketed recently. The tourism and urban
gentrification of entire neighborhoods goes hand in hand with the
transformation of housing into a commodity that is recklessly priced and
brings easy profits to air bnb entrepreneurs (and also small owners),
the purchase and subsequent rental of entire complexes by investors who
secure the golden visa. Of course, the strategic goal of housing,
brokerage and banking capital is the annihilation of home ownership, the
removal of the labors of a lifetime of toil and work. In this way, big
capital seeks the concentration of real estate and the consequent
regulation of the increase in rents. At the same time - in the midst of
three repeated interest rate increases by the ECB, an increase in "red"
mortgages and the passing of the new bankruptcy code by the ND - public
housing is threatened by the acceleration of auctions (which are carried
out electronically by decision of the joint government SYRIZA-ANEL) and
the facility provided by civil justice for the predatory grabbing of
homes carried out by funds and debt collection companies.

The latest anti-labor bills (abolition of 8-hour, 6-day work, digital
work card, abolition of Sunday holiday) established employer
arbitrariness and created conditions of modern slavery. The 6-day work
does not only concern factories in sectors such as Metal, Energy, Water,
Food - Beverages, but also affects the private sector of health,
transport, ports, and generally loading and unloading areas. It is
likely to expand to supermarkets, e-commerce and warehouses. The measure
is imposed unilaterally by the employer with the justification of
increased workload, ignoring existing contracts and agreements. The 6th
working day is not accompanied by a day off in the following weeks and
does not correspond to an additional mark, with the total legal working
time for each week remaining 48 hours. In addition, up to 3 days per
month are given free to the employer, with no penalties for unused time,
while no hours are declared for "managers", allowing employers to
designate even part-time workers as managers. The responsibility for the
correct use of the digital card is transferred to the employees, with
the risk of disciplinary penalties for unpaid hours. Also, the break is
not considered working time, extending the total working time, and
employers can vary the start and end of the work day in 4-hour
increments. These measures come in addition to other working conditions,
such as 13 hours of work per day in multiple employers, 9 to 13 hours of
work per day and 78 hours of work per week in the arrangement, without
overtime pay, with the hope of future days off. Also, "on-demand
employment" where workers will be on call without pay and must respond
to notices within 24 hours.

At the same time, the New Republic government is proceeding with the
dismantling of public health, by turning hospitals into businesses and
patients into customers who will pay in gold for health services. Its
strategy is based on measures that further institutionalize the
privatization of health, culminating in paid afternoon surgeries. With
costs ranging from 300 to 2,000 euros, the "legal bag" is now becoming a
regime, forcing those who cannot pay to wait for years on waiting lists,
risking their health and lives. Afternoon surgeries will take place in
the same rooms that remain closed during the day due to lack of staff.
Doctors and nurses, already working in grueling conditions, will be
required to work extra hours, further undermining the quality of health
services. In addition to surgeries, the ND government is imposing new
fees on tests and drugs, with patients incurring costs of EUR1 to EUR3
for each referral and EUR3 for generic drugs. On the one hand, it
provides political and military support to the Zelensky regime, sending
arms and ammunition to Ukraine, in the war between Ukraine (see NATO)
and Russia. On the other hand, it is involved in the outbreak of war in
the Middle East, as the Headquarters of the 1st Army in Larissa is now
the operational headquarters for the "SHIELDS" operation against the
action of the Houthi rebels in Yemen, with the Greek frigate "Hydra"
patrolling the straits of the Red Sea. In addition, the Greek state
provides Greek airspace to the US for the transfer of war material to
Israel, sends missiles from the Greek army depots to Israel for the
bombing of Gaza, and participates in naval military operations to
blockade and intimidate Palestinian allies. in the Eastern Mediterranean
together with other forces of NATO and the European Union. The
government of the New Democracy and the rest of the bourgeois parties
are unconditionally on the side of the genocidal state of Israel,
seeking for the local bourgeoisie a share of the spoils of war through
the credentials they provide to the USA and NATO but also the readiness
for immediate involvement of the Greek army in the war.

In this difficult situation, it is realized that the survival conditions
of the working class are becoming more and more difficult, while our
lives hang by a thin thread in the foreground of a generalized
imperialist war with the sole aim of serving capitalist interests. We
have no choice but to resist, not to remain passive spectators as we
cannot meet our basic needs and the rulers want to drag us into a human
slaughterhouse for their profits and share of power in the imperialist
pie. Our present and future is determined by our organization. From our
ability to unite, to defend our own interests, the interests of our class.

The general strike on 20 November is an important stage to raise our
voices and demand higher wages, collective agreements and reduced
working hours, against the unaffordable cost of living imposed by bosses
and the state. Let us also put in the forefront of our claims the
defense of the inalienable social right to housing, the defense of
public and free health and education that are becoming a burden of
privatization with afternoon surgeries (essentially legalization in the
envelope) and the imminent establishment of private Universities
respectively.

Against the sold-out employer trade unionism of the GSEE and the
bureaucratic and urbanized ADEDY, let us support the unguarded, militant
trade unionism from the grassroots. To organize in the unions in our
workplaces, so that we can collectively face the arbitrariness and
attacks carried out in concert by the bosses and the state. Because
class organization and solidarity can in practice bring about victories
for our class and defend the achievements of struggles that capital
wants to take back. At the same time, without wasting time, we must
strengthen the anti-imperialist-anti-war movement, having as our
"compass" proletarian internationalism and not the choice of a
preferable imperialist camp, sabotaging the war equipment and
preparations, the warmongering plans of the Greek state and the domestic
bourgeoisie, "throwing sand in its gears". imperialist war.

The impasses of the capitalist system are becoming more and more evident
as the structural crisis of the system deepens and political and
geopolitical destabilization intensifies. Capitalism has nothing more to
offer us than poverty, destitution and hundreds of dead people. It is up
to us to decide how we want to live and whether we will allow the
powerful to continue playing with our lives while they continue to, of
course, get rich off our sweat and lives.

The only thing certain is that a system based on the exploitation and
oppression of man (and nature) by man cannot be reformed, nor can it be
freed from its barbaric character. For this reason, its overthrow, the
abolition of the state and classes, the classless and extreme
organization of society on the basis of libertarian communism is all but
necessary.

ORGANIZING AND FIGHTING IN THE WORKPLACE - SOLIDARITY IS THE WEAPON OF
THE WORKERS

WE WILL NOT LIVE TO WORK - WE WILL NOT WORK UNTIL WE DIE

WAGE INCREASE IN MEASURE OF OUR REAL NEEDS, SIGNING OF SSE IN ALL
INDUSTRIES, REDUCTION OF WORKING HOURS

HANDS FROM SHELTER - NO HOME WITHOUT A PEOPLE, NO PEOPLE WITHOUT A HOME

NO PARTICIPATION IN THE IMPERIALIST WARS, SABOTAGE OF THE WAR MACHINE OF
THE GREEK STATE AND NATO - WE ARE NOT FIGHTING FOR THE BOSS'S INTERESTS,
WE WILL NOT BECOME MEAT IN THEIR CANNONS

CAPITALISM IS NOT DEHUMANIZED, IT IS SUBJECTED

As if all this were not enough, the ND government is dangerously
involving the domestic working class in two open war fronts.
