Year 2024 and tagged Tump, USA elections, russia, war. ---- The size of
Trump's victory in the US elections allows the new president to overcomeevery obstacle constituted by the balances that the country's
institutional system provides. In fact, he enjoys full control of the
majority of the House and the Senate, as well as that of the Supreme
Court and the entire government apparatus of the country. He is
thinking, also using his mentor Musk as a headhunter, of getting rid of
all those government officials not aligned with the Maga positions in
order to be able to realize his electoral promises.
We agree with the analyses of the vote made public by Benny Sanders and
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who have identified the causes of the
Democrats' defeat in the excessive if not exclusive attention placed by
their candidate on the problems connected to the protection of civil
rights, flattening themselves on the problems of woke culture without
taking into account the conditions of real material hardship in which a
large part of the populations living in small towns, suburbs and the
endless countryside of the country are forced to live.
The economic policy of the Democratic administrations has taken care of
the macroeconomic factors of the economy, deluding themselves that the
growth of GDP, profits and dividends was sufficient to provide voters
with a positive evaluation of their specific and personal economic
situation, underestimating instead the devastating effects resulting
from the decentralization of production and the deindustrialization of
many traditionally working-class areas of the country that have seen
companies transfer production to more convenient locations, to allow
companies to make high profits.
The fall in incomes and the simultaneous growth of inflation has weighed
on the material living conditions of the population that has felt
understood by the demagogic Trumpian policy that promised to put a
priority remedy to the unstoppable growth of prices and the simultaneous
decrease in work, not disjointed from an increased insecurity, due to an
uncontrolled mass emigration that, by creating a clandestine and
parallel labor market, has contributed to depress wages and the
contractual capacity of workers. The American consumer has found himself
besieged and invaded by products made in China and, recently, by
products in Mexico, just across the border, in the special economic
areas specifically created and all this while China itself holds a large
part of the public debt of the United States of which it fuels the
economy in order to stimulate its capacity to absorb the market of
Chinese goods. Now the country will have to succumb to the Trumpian axe,
while faint hopes of an easing of the repressive grip could only be had
in two years, with the mid-term elections. The wind of reaction and
repression of civil rights, coming from the United States, risks in the
meantime investing the entire Western world, while the phenomena of
perversion of the liberal democratic institutions of Western countries
will be accentuated, which will evolve towards forms of democracy,
parallel to the prevalence of right-wing political forces, of populist,
reactionary and conservative orientation. An emblematic signal in this
regard comes from the satisfaction for Trump's election expressed not
only by Orban, but also by Milei, Bolsonaro and Meloni herself, while
new politicians like Merz aspire to access the room of buttons.
It belongs entirely to the Democratic Party and the other political
forces operating in the United States, to find the path for a profound
self-critical reflection and to create the conditions for a relaunch for
a different political phase that takes into account the mistakes made
and recovers a constructive relationship with the popular classes and
the working class of the country, in order to relaunch a democratic
management of the institutions.
We must realize that the time of centrist policies is over and that we
must return to analysis and class conflict, to recover the dimensions of
life of a society that is at least tendentially free and equal, more
just and capable of creating the material conditions for an effective
protection of rights, for social justice, for an efficient and
generalized welfare, in the awareness that without the realization of a
tendential economic equality and at least equal opportunities, there are
no possible protections of civil rights. The future of the West will
largely depend on the success of these attempts and these efforts, but
the European peoples who find themselves suffering the consequences of
the international policy adopted by the United States, in coherence with
the internal political choices just described, can have little influence
on this.
The 27 Dwarfs
In light of the policies that Trump will adopt towards Europe, the
member states of the European Union must decide whether they want to
relate to the United States as 27 dwarfs, or whether they want to form a
common front, in the knowledge that they share the same interests. Trump
has promised to adopt a very severe tariff policy, to protect US
exports, to conduct an aggressive energy policy that does not take
climate problems into account, to demand that Europeans pay the costs of
their defense, to dedicate investments and maximum care to the
technological development of the United States, in order to have full
control of innovation. Especially with regard to this last point, the
choice to place Elon Musk alongside the Presidency is emblematic of the
orientations of the US administration in light of the symbiotic
relationship that binds the new President to the South African entrepreneur.
The current leadership of the European Union is completely incapable of
coping with this situation. The President of the Commission is
notoriously devoid of any charisma, political depth and ability, she is
distinguished by inconsistency and is flanked by a very weak Commission
lacking leadership in each of the roles assigned to represent the Union.
The European Union is absent in foreign policy as in economic policies
and appears involved in a debate that uses the Draghi report as a point
of reference, placing it alongside the Letta report, forgetting that
above all Draghi is and remains the man of Goldman Sachs, the auctioneer
of the Italian industrial apparatus owned by the State, distributed like
a succulent stew to the highest bidder in the auction organized in the
early 1990s, renting on behalf of the company for which he worked the
Britannia. It is no coincidence that this report is consistent with the
choices of the United States, suggests a policy of European rearmament
as the cornerstone of Europe's strategic vision, while leaving the
continent in the hands of the energy policy of the United States, in a
relationship of subjection to the US industrial economic apparatus,
cultivates and cares as a common good the frontal confrontation and
competition with Russia. If Europe wants to recover space for its own
interests and for a policy that benefits the populations that compose
it, it must take note that the first step to take is to distance itself
from Anglo-Saxon economic and financial capitalism that has shown in
fact to be its most bitter enemy and competitor. Europe must take note
of the existence of a multipolar world and awareness of the fact that it
constitutes one of these poles, completely on a par with the other
competitors with whom it establishes agreements of collaboration or
competition from time to time. This means detaching itself as much as
possible from the dollar area, making the euro an even more independent
and autonomous currency, establishing positive and cooperative relations
with the BRICS, helping their efforts to give themselves a common
currency and in any case offering alternative guarantees so that they
can use the euro for their needs.
For a policy of this type to find space, it is essential for Europe to
detach itself from the Ukrainian war and proceed to a phase of
reorganization and greater amalgamation of the group of countries that
are part of it in order to find the most suitable decision-making
mechanisms to overcome the rule of unanimity, through the creation of
real convergences of interests that do not penalize any of the
interlocutors, allowing us to overcome the nationalisms and particular
interests of some of the States that are part of it.
If the perspective in which to move is the one just described, the
process of enlargement of the European Union must be extremely prudent
and gradual and cannot ignore a careful verification of the existence of
the conditions that allow the States that ask for membership to enter
the Union, without penalizing the community aequis. At the same time,
common rules must be adopted and must allow the overcoming of the
different fiscal and financial regimes that currently put some States of
the European Community in competition with others, creating a fiscal
dumping that is unbearable for the virtuous behavior of the different
countries.
The European Union cannot fail to adopt a policy of peace as a priority,
promoting the resolution of conflicts, starting with the one in the
Middle East, regarding which, overcoming any sense of guilt due to the
racial persecution of the Jewish people, it must instead adopt a radical
and rigorous policy of sanctions against the Zionist government of
Israel, aimed at imposing the peaceful coexistence of the populations on
the territory of Palestine. Having a solid and vital economy, truly
equal, that rebalances the relationships between the different
territories of the Union is the best guarantee of strength, much more
than a rearmament policy so massive as to absorb enormous resources and
which inevitably leads to possible conflict. The deterrent policies
practiced up to now have not guaranteed against the explosion of bloody
conflicts, as tragically demonstrated by both the war in Ukraine and
what is happening today in the Middle East. Just look at the history of
NATO and its repeated interventions, even outside its area of
competence, to realize how this apparently defensive alliance was in
reality the instrument of involvement in the war, in the name and on
behalf of the US hegemonic power. In the interest of Europe, it is good
that all this ends and that a culture of peace is promoted.
One last poisoned meatball
Before leaving the scene, a Biden, increasingly angry in his senile
madness, authorized Ukraine to use missiles supplied by the United
States to strike Russian territory, advising to limit their range around
the Kurk area in an attempt to strengthen the failed Ukrainian
initiative to invade Russian territory. This would be a response to the
presence of North Korean troops that no one has yet seen in combat.
In reality, the choice responds to Zelenschy's request to try to shore
up a strategic error that pushed him to commit elite components of his
army to the Russian adventure, with the result of further weakening the
strength of the front on the Dombas. Furthermore, from a strategic point
of view, the use of missiles adds nothing to the current Ukrainian
capabilities to strike deep into Russian territory, as is in fact
already happening with drones. The result is the purely instrumental
value from a political point of view of this choice that has the sole
effect of increasing tension between the parties, in order to undermine
and make more difficult any peace negotiations and resolution of the
conflict.
