This practice leaves a trail of suffering, and it's all to produce jackets and bedding when humane alternatives already exist. For example, one of the world's largest retailers, H&M, has been exploring innovative sustainable fabrics made from other natural materials like wildflowers.
In fact, H&M is now taking a monumental stand. The company has announced it will completely eliminate the use of virgin down feathers by 2025, instead opting for synthetic and recycled alternatives!
Yet brands like Patagonia, North Face, and Columbia — well-known names in outdoor apparel — still use virgin down feathers in their products. These companies position themselves as ethical and sustainable, but their continued support of the down industry tells a different story. By switching to synthetic or recycled alternatives, they can align with the values of their customers and make a real impact on animal welfare.
P.S. It's time for these outdoor giants to prove that protecting animals and the environment is more than just a slogan. Fashion should not come at the expense of animals' well-being. Sign the petition.
