Despite this, small wild cats receive far less attention. Although many small cat species are considered Vulnerable or Endangered, 99% of wild cat funding focuses on big cats.

Re:wild is leading global efforts to protect small wild cats, focusing on addressing the root causes of threats and working with local communities to ensure sustainable, scalable solutions. This is part of Re:wild's strategic goal of supporting the recovery of 500 priority species and contributing to the conservation of an additional 50,000 species.

Meet Re:wild Associate Anya Ratnayaka 👋

Early in her career, Anya Ratnayaka intended to dedicate her work to Leopards. But that changed when she unintentionally met her first small wild cat, the Fishing Cat.

Like Anya, local people did not know there were Fishing Cats in their city. Through the Urban Fishing Cat Conservation Project, Anya has worked to raise awareness about the importance of studying and conserving this Vulnerable species.
