Euthanasia Is Not the Answer: Help us save cats in Morocco

Dear friends,

The New Year is a time for fresh starts and renewed hope, but for the vulnerable cats of Morocco, hope is fading fast. The heartbreaking images of suffering felines tell a story of unimaginable pain—cats with broken legs, severe infections, deadly viruses, and debilitating conditions that leave them clinging to life. These furry friends are in peril, and we cannot turn away. Against all odds, one woman—Fatim from You Can Save Me—is waging a battle to save them. But she cannot do it alone.

Animals First Aid is an IRS-designated 501(c)(3) charitable organization (tax ID# 99-1042428), with a public charity status under Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi). We are qualified to receive tax-deductible bequests, devises, transfers, or gifts under Sections 2055, 2106, or 2522.

The Harsh Reality on Morocco's Streets

Morocco’s streets are harsh and unforgiving. Many cats suffer from untreated illnesses like calicivirus, scabies, and coryza virus. Others are victims of car accidents, left with broken limbs that require costly surgeries or even amputations. The alternative for most of these cats would be euthanasia, a final act that many would call mercy. But Fatim refuses to let their stories end that way. She believes every life is worth fighting for.

Fatim’s resources are stretched to the breaking point. She needs our help to continue this lifesaving work. This January, we’re calling on animal lovers worldwide to stand with Fatim and You Can Save Me. Together, we can give these cats a fighting chance. Our goal is to raise $1,500 (approximately €1,375 or £1,215) to cover urgent veterinary bills and operational expenses. Every dollar, euro, or pound makes a difference.

Heart-Wrenching Stories of Survival

The stories of these cats are heart-wrenching. There is the frail white cat, her leg mangled from a car accident, now awaiting surgery to save her life. There are the two kittens, their tiny bodies ravaged by calicivirus, their mouths covered in painful ulcers that make even eating a struggle. There is the cat with scabies, her fur nearly gone, her body a canvas of suffering. And then there are those whose lives hang by a thread, too weak to fight yet still hoping for a miracle. These are not isolated cases. This is the daily reality Fatim faces.

The Crushing Weight of Veterinary Bills

Imagine the desperation of a mother cat unable to care for her kittens due to severe infection, or the agony of a young cat with an infected leg left untreated. These are not abstract stories; these are the lives Fatim is trying to save. Every day, she faces mounting vet bills for surgeries, treatments, and medications. January has brought a deluge of cases, and with staff wages and operational costs, the financial strain is unbearable.

A Beacon of Compassion in Morocco

In a country where animal welfare often goes unnoticed, Fatim’s work is a beacon of compassion. She has saved countless lives, providing shelter, medical care, and love to animals who otherwise had no chance. Her efforts have proven that these cats are not disposable. They are resilient, deserving of dignity and the chance to heal. Yet, this relentless fight has taken a toll. Resources are depleted, and without immediate help, more lives will be lost.

The vet bills alone are staggering. The surgeries required to mend broken bones, the medications needed to treat infections, the special diets for malnourished and sick cats—all of these costs add up. And still, there is no respite. Fatim’s team works tirelessly, but they are overwhelmed. January has brought not only bitter cold but also a tidal wave of suffering animals. The choice Fatim faces daily is unbearable: whom to save and whom to let go.
