Considering a city through its social history, mapping the class
struggle, resistance to power, the desire of so-called dangerouspopulations to reclaim an urban space that should belong to it, that's a
good idea!; both so that its inhabitants remember where they come from
and so that their memory is not obstructed by the stories of the
bourgeoisie, with its monuments, streets and statues, and so that the
visitor leaves Michelin or Routard guides at the entrance to the city in
order to maintain hope in a radiant city instead of an urban hell.
Nantes is a celebration, say the authors of Nantes Révoltée. Indeed,
when we fly over the social struggles that have taken place, those of
workers and peasants, of schoolchildren and creators of all kinds, and
we see that these are written in stone on every street corner, we see
that the will for revolution is a source of life that opposes the
grayness and horror contained in the homes of the Quai de la Fosses, the
remaining symbol of what was the first slave port in France. A good idea
that we can hope that in every city in France, small or large, a
counter-visit of this kind will be born!
