A world of pain, a chance for hope—but only if you act now. |
Across the quiet outskirts of South Africa, where city edges blend into wild fields, a silent battle for survival unfolds daily. The feral cats of Lanseria roam these lands, unseen and unheard, fighting hunger, disease, and cruelty. Yet, through the dedication of people like Nina Wilson (Lanseria Ferals Chairperson) and the kindness of supporters like you, hope still flickers for these forgotten souls.
For years, Animals First Aid has proudly partnered with Lanseria Ferals (South Africa), working side by side with Nina, whose tireless efforts have transformed the lives of hundreds of feral cats. Her days are filled with feeding, trapping, vet visits, and the heartbreaking but necessary work of rescuing the injured and sterilizing the vulnerable. |

Tail de-gloved, the skin stripped away, leaving exposed bone. |
One of Nina’s most touching recent rescues was Patchy-Paws—a feral cat who had slowly learned to trust her over six long years of patient feeding. After a brutal rainstorm, Patchy-Paws disappeared, leaving Nina deeply worried. For two agonizing weeks, there was no sign of her. Then, during a routine feeding, Nina spotted her—emaciated, weak, and hiding deep within the bushes. Her tail was gruesomely de-gloved, the skin stripped away, leaving exposed bone. Despite her pain, Patchy-Paws dragged herself out when she heard Nina’s familiar call. |
Without hesitation, Nina rushed her the Vet, where emergency surgery saved Patchy-Paws’ life. Her tail had to be amputated, but today, she is safe, healing, and learning to trust again in her foster home. This miracle was only possible because of previous donor support. But this is just one story. There are countless more cats still out there, waiting for someone to notice them—someone like you. |

Every donation counts. Every dollar stretches far in South Africa. $52/£41 — Sterilizes a female cat, preventing endless litters. $42/£33 — Sterilizes a male, stopping him from fathering hundreds of kittens. $25/£20 — Feeds a colony for a week, ensuring no cat goes hungry. $100/£78 — Covers a full TNR for one cat, including vaccination and treatments.
But Nina needs your help to keep going. The need is constant, the challenges unending, but together we can change lives. |

Since January, Nina has successfully sterilized seven feral cats—six females and one male. Without this intervention, each unsterilized female could have produced multiple litters, leading to hundreds of kittens born into suffering. Every sterilization halts the endless cycle of overpopulation and gives these cats a fighting chance. Sterilization is more than just surgery—it’s a holistic approach to bettering feral lives. Each procedure includes: Rabies Vaccination: Protecting both cats and the community. Tick and Flea Treatment: A critical addition, especially after discovering severe infestations. Deworming: Preventing parasites that can cause slow, painful deaths.

Why Your Support is Vital Now |
However, these costs add up. Sterilizing a female cat costs around R1000 ($52/£41), and a male around R800 ($42/£33). If disease testing is required, an extra R500 is needed—often a vital step when a colony shows signs of illness.
Recently, Nina faced another hurdle when the vet she relied on for discounted rates shut down. While she found a new vet willing to offer some discounts, the fees are higher, further stretching already limited resources.
Despite these challenges, Nina’s determination remains unshaken. Since the start of the year, she has also continued vital feeding efforts for over 200 feral cats across several colonies. These cats depend on her, and by extension—on you. |
