As part of its axis of struggle against the far right, the feminist
coordination, an inter-organization on a national scale, is calling fora feminist strike this January. A look back at the ins and outs of this
mobilization. ---- The feminist coordination, born in 2020, is a group
of feminist collectives, associations and assemblies from all over
France, which organizes jointly and horizontally around the desire to
"build an autonomous feminist movement, anchored locally"[1].
Although each entity is politically independent, they all meet and
exchange, develop around major common axes. The purpose of the feminist
coordination is to move "towards the unification of a feminist movement,
anti-capitalist and anti-racist, pro-trans rights, respectful of the
rights of sex workers, radically in solidarity with Muslim and Jewish
people and their struggles"[2], and to fight against all discrimination.
During its last annual summer meetings, it structured itself to be more
operational in the struggles.
The main axis of the coming year
Faced with the French political situation, marked by the very worrying
extreme right-wing shift of society in the ballot boxes and in speeches,
the feminist coordination has chosen as its preferred axis to organize
an annual joint campaign to fight against the extreme right, entitled
"Feminists against the extreme right".
Given the shift to the right of the Overton window[3], favored by
Macron's policy and the media, the feminist coordination, like many
activist organizations, wanted to contribute to denouncing the current
fascist atmosphere in France. She wants to mobilize concretely to fight
against it throughout the year and propose another model of society.
A major event on January 25
One of the variations of this campaign is the organization this
Saturday, January 25, of a "feminist strike to beat the far right".
Events (workshops, training, meetings, round tables, etc.) will be
organized regionally, simultaneously in all the cities of France where
collectives and organizations of the coordination were able to respond:
Caen, Calais, Grenoble, Marseille, Nantes, Paris, Rennes, Rouen,
Toulouse and Versailles.
The announcement of the strike and the call to join the events was made
the day after November 25 on social networks. Via visuals posted in
particular on Instagram, the members developed their arguments, focused
on anti-racism, the free disposal of our bodies, salaries and public
services from a feminist perspective.
The objectives are multiple. Beyond awareness and information, the first
is to concretely facilitate access to feminist engagement against the
far right locally. The idea is also to create or strengthen links with
other local struggle collectives (anti-racist, anti-fascist,
undocumented, etc.), to be stronger together.
So watch out for the feminist event against the far right near you on
January 25!
