Twelve years ago, La Manif pour Tous (LMPT) marched against the Taubira
law known as "marriage for all" legalizing LGBT marriage. Today called
"Family Union", it has a new obsession: the program of education on
emotional, relational and sexual life. ---- The objectives of the Family
Union are clear: to broaden its scope of intervention to "defend the
family and the complementarity of the sexes"[1], using a range of
actions broader than the demonstration. ---- Just like the National
Front, which has not changed its mind by renaming itself the National
Rally, the Family Union continues to spread the reactionary moral panics
of LMPT: hatred of wokism which is supposedly responsible for the
dramatic drop in the birth rate, stigmatization of LGBT people (and more
particularly trans people) who are supposedly indoctrinating children,
opposition to PMA for all... This is not surprising, when we know that
its president, Ludovine de la Rochère, worked for the Jérôme LeJeune
Foundation, openly anti-abortion, before creating LMPT and that its
vice-president, Albéric Dumont, marched in 2019 against PMA for all and
is also responsible for Éric Zemmour's security.
The organization stepped up to the plate, in coordination with "Parents
vigilant SOS Éducation" as soon as the first version of the program for
education in emotional, relational and sexual life (Evars) was released
in March 2024.
Published by the Higher Council of Programs (CSP), this program aims to
supervise the three annual hours of sex education that young people from
pre-elementary school to high school must receive since the 2001 law on
abortion and contraception, but which are rarely offered in practice
(less than 15% of students in primary school and 20% in middle school
receive these courses[2]).
While this program has been welcomed by the collective "For a real
education in sexuality", which includes the Family Planning Association,
which points out that sexuality education is "one of the best tools for
detecting incest and preventing all forms of violence"[3], while 160,000
children are sexually assaulted each year according to the Independent
Commission on Incest and Sexual Violence Against Children (CIIVISE), the
Family Union has continued to discredit the CSP's proposal, which
according to Ludovine de la Rochère constitutes "ideological brainwashing".
Petition, false information, rallies in front of rectorships,
conferences ("Wokism and Transidentity at school, let's leave our
children alone"), tour of right-wing and far-right media, from Le Figaro
to JDD via Boulevard Voltaire, even a symposium at the Senate with the
associations "Juristes pour l'enfance" and "Famille et liberté" (two
associations close to LMPT), all means are good to discredit the
program. This episode is reminiscent of the ABCD of equality, a teaching
program to combat sexism and gender stereotypes, launched by Najat
Vallaud-Belkacem in 2013, then abandoned in the face of far-right media
propaganda denouncing "gender theory", which Ludivine de la Rochère is
now pleased about.
