The Meloni government is about to enter its third year of government and
it is likely that, unique in recent decades, it will manage to completethe entire legislature. The secret? ---- There is no secret. The
government team of the secretary of FdI is of a very low level.
Comparisons are made with fascism, but if you exclude the lineage of
origin, Mussolini (who was a criminal but not an idiot) would certainly
not have surrounded himself with such a court of runaways. Aside from
Starace, useful for taking the insults in his place, the technocratic
part was in the hands of serious people. People of the ruling class,
obviously.
But Meloni could have also appointed a horse as minister, because her
mandate is not to govern Italy (even though she declares herself, quite
unexpectedly, "a patriot"), but to carry out the tasks that have been
assigned to her at a transnational level.
This is true both on the front of the most radical ordo-liberal
orthodoxy of the European Union and on the hyper-liberal American one,
well represented by the Musk-Trump duo who, in this paradoxical game,
are clearly against Europe.
DOING HOMEWORK TOGETHER
While, therefore, on the international level the Prime Minister has not
lifted a finger to change the situation both in terms of the economic
and strategic structure, proving herself to be one of the most faithful
executors of a visceral Atlanticism, on the internal level she is
carrying forward - or rather, she is allowing - an identity/fascist
policy that is, however, an empty box. Moreover, to be fair, not even
the "real" fascist right in power has ever touched the key points of the
capitalist production system, indeed, it has accentuated its
characteristics of exploitation to an extreme, camouflaging them behind
the narrative of a national socialism, in which the boss and the worker
work for the same goal.
Oh God, it must be said that this same concept, which has always been
typical of fascism (the mythical and non-existent "third way") was then
adopted entirely by the post-'89 "left" which, in real behavior,
produced a real devastation of social rights. Those same left that then
also became warmongers.
In this case, and forgive me for the parenthesis, we are really faced
with an almost (almost, because in the end we cannot say that they are
really the same thing, otherwise we would fall into an empty
indifference), specular behavior.
On the one hand, they appear nationalists and patriots internally, while
adopting a completely orthodox behavior externally, on the other, they
use the same rhetoric, but veered towards a pseudo-progressivism of
facade and maintaining intact the subordination to NATO and to the ordo
and neoliberal dogma. Perhaps this is also why the left has not appeared
a credible alternative for some time?
In short, the "angry" Meloni is an obedient little dog and the arrival
of Trump and Musk will make her their standard-bearer in the internal
clash within American capital (between the globalist one and the -
equally pervasive - one of the so-called "defeated" by globalization -
if that's what the super-billionaires who play in this game can be called).
THE ENEMY MARCHES AT YOUR HEAD
A right-wing government in this phase was what capital needed. After the
experience with the ex-leftists who fulfilled the same role well,
something had jammed. By a strange twist of fate, the PD-5Stelle
government had dared to put forward 2 proposals, very irrelevant and
indeed we could say useless or almost, such as the citizen's income and
the 110%.
A very serious affront to neo-liberal thought, or rather the idea that
politics can return to dealing with the economy of a country. Thus began
a shameful media campaign against the so-called "smart guys" of the
citizen's income splashed every day on the front pages of newspapers and
news, as if the violation of a law were a condition for eliminating the
law and not for enforcing it.
A disgusting public lynching, with the instigator being the Italian and
transnational ruling class that, when necessary, stops at nothing.
HOLY BRUNCH
But the policies of the right, although limited to Italy, are no less
dangerous for this. On the contrary.
Dusted off the truncheon from under the double-breasted suit: in these 2
and a half years we have witnessed a large-scale resumption of street
repression, an increase in criminal sanctions. While on the other side,
obviously, the Fornero law, if possible, has worsened further, pensions
have increased by EUR 1.80 while ministers will earn over EUR 7,000.00
more per month. There is no doubt about it, a truly patriotic and
pro-Italian policy.
BIPARTISAN WAR
Unfortunately, the scenario is so depressing that the opposition, even
when it makes itself heard, is not even capable of calling things by
their name. What was the left is now so disgraced that even a minimal
recovery seems difficult. If in national politics it seems to wake up
only when it is not in government (and when it was it had very heavy
responsibilities) in international politics it is completely lost.
Pro-NATO, in favor of weapons to Ukraine, inert on the genocide in Gaza.
What hopes can come from this side?
THIRTY YEARS' WAR
Over the last 30 years, the Middle East has been reduced to such a pile
of rubble that the constant clarifications about "Assad dictator",
"Saddam exterminator", "Gaddafi criminal" and so on appear like fig
leaves stuck together with spit. Countries with obviously difficult and
complex internal situations (among other things direct heirs of the
cynical - to say the least - Anglo-French policy during the First World
War), but which had reached at least decent standards of living and with
industrial structures not to be thrown away, have been brought back to a
sort of post-nuclear prehistory (a sort of realized cyberpunk) of which
there is no end in sight. An entire portion of the planet that had
started, certainly with difficulty, fatigue, corruption, repression and
so on and so forth (from this point of view the West, inventor of
National Socialism, suffers from serious amnesia in allowing itself to
judge) towards a secular horizon in which religious fundamentalism now
seemed to be a thing of the past (or had never even existed), has now
been in continuous chaos for decades, where pauses of normality are an
understatement. In this context, Assad, Gaddafi and even Saddam (the
last two killed without any respect for international law, just like in
the worst of the nineteenth-century colonial policies) will appear (or
rather now appear) to be like an era that is even impossible to remember
as having actually existed. That this is not true according to Western
standards that the West itself shows it does not want to admit for
anyone other than itself - is difficult to sustain in the face of the
current situation.
I do not know if there are conscious agents of the chaos, I am more
inclined towards the (much more worrying) ending of the film "Burn after
reading".
"What have we learned from this story?... nothing! Well at least we have
learned not to do it again... but we have done nothing!... What a
fucking mess.
HORIZONS OF GLORY?
The context is that of a paradigm shift, which will last for a long
time. The US must react to the loss of hegemony and to do so they must
fight against China. For this reason, Trump will probably have to
approach Putin to unhook him from the Chinese giant and it is not
certain, as has often happened, that the sacrificial victim will not
become Zelensky, forced to negotiate after hundreds of thousands of
deaths. In this context, the European Union has exhausted its role, if
it ever had one. The countries that compose it are free to go out: on
the one hand, Orban's Hungary has no desire to go against Russia, given
its geographical position, but what is truly decisive today appears to
be the deep crisis of Germany, on whose measure the Union was built. A
Germany that is the real objective of the USA (whether represented by
Biden or Trump). The opportunity (but never even proposed) of being a
continent with an autonomous policy has now been thrown to the nettles
with the decision to arm Ukraine, a country that is neither in NATO nor
in the Union, bleeding its economic and military resources on behalf of
the USA, whose arms industry has never been so flourishing. And then
keeping quiet about the genocide in Gaza. A continent destined for
strategic insignificance. A full-blown suicide.
THE GLOBAL RIGHT
So in this context, the right-wing realignment of many nations has a
logic that goes beyond the individual countries. The United States, in a
crisis of hegemony, must find allies and executors more reliable than
the previous ones. The narrative is always the same: global
conspiracies, defense of the rough native worker (in reality this is
equivalent to the defense not of social rights but of some presumed
virile identity). Little or nothing changes in global capital, since the
game remains the same. However, it is good to clarify that this context
is the consequence of thirty years of neoliberal policies implemented
mainly by ex-progressives, or we could call them "imperial left" who
have prepared the ground on which their opponents play much better than
them.
DRAGHI AND KNIGHTS
I want to close with Draghi's recent statement which, prefacing a sort
of war Keynesianism, calmly says what we have been trying in vain to say
for 30 years.
A truism that is wonderfully concentrated in the image that the magazine
"La Fionda" has spread on the Web. As always, we have to fight on many
fronts: it is not because the left sucks that we have to think that
Meloni will do a little less. But we cannot forget that we have Meloni
precisely because the left we have really sucks and the filth adds up
and does not cancel each other out.
Happy 2025!
