WORLD WORLDWIDE INTERNATIONAL - re:wild -wildlife - We need to talk...

It’s tru: Our relationship with beef is destroying the planet.

A staggering 80% of all agricultural land is used for livestock and the crops that feed them. This inefficient use of land has devastating consequences – animal agriculture, especially beef, is the most significant driver of habitat loss on the planet. In the Amazon alone, 95% of deforestation between 1985 and 2021 was due to land clearing for cattle pastures and feed crops.

This relentless deforestation is devastating ecosystems, increasing the risk of wildfires, and accelerating biodiversity loss. If we don’t change course, nearly 90% of wild land animals will lose critical parts of their habitat to agriculture by 2050.

It’s not (just) you though. For years, the meat industry has fed us misleading (yet scientific-sounding) claims about beef like:

It’s time to rethink what’s on our plate and the impact it has on the environment.

So what’s the solution?

Eating plant-based isn’t as daunting as you think! 🎉

A lot of the foods you’re probably already eating are plants. Many plant-based foods are cheap, widely available, incredibly versatile, and best of all — delicious! Are you ready to join us this Valentine’s Day and break up with beef?

Here are 6 ideas to get you started:

  1. Sweet potatoes – Great for roasting, mashing, adding to tacos, making fries, or in soups.

  2. Tofu – Super versatile! Use it in scrambles, stir-fries, soups, sandwiches, or even desserts.

  3. Black beans – Amazing in tacos, burritos, soups, salads, and even brownies for a sneaky protein boost.

  4. Oats – Not just for breakfast! Use them in smoothies, energy balls, pancakes, baked goods, and even as a binder for veggie burgers.

  5. Peanut butter – A budget-friendly protein source great for sauces, stir-fries, oatmeal, sandwiches, and smoothies.

  6. Rice – A great base for bowls, stir-fries, curries, soups, or even stuffed peppers.

The choices we make about food matter — for the planet, for wildlife, and for our future.
