From 27 to 29 December 2024, the third meeting of anarcho-syndicalist
organizations from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region took placein Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Delegations from Australia,
Burma, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand and
South Korea participated, as well as the secretariat of the
International Workers' Association (IWA) and the IWA Asia-Pacific
sub-secretariat. ---- The event aimed to exchange experiences and
information and strengthen ties in the region. ---- The delegations
presented their organizations, discussed their work at the local and
regional levels, and addressed the economic situation of the working
class in their respective countries. They also spoke about trade union
activities, as well as anarchism and anarcho-syndicalist initiatives in
the workplace. In addition, the discussions focused on ways and methods
to improve the coordination of activities at the regional and
international levels.
During the meeting, it was noted that anarcho-syndicalism in the region
is facing difficult conditions: demonstrations are banned in Singapore,
Burma is embroiled in a civil war between the junta and its opponents,
and the Indonesian authorities are waging a campaign against anarchism,
forcing the IWA section to operate clandestinely there. In addition, in
Indonesia and Pakistan, the promotion of atheism is punishable by death,
while in Indonesia there are also serious employment problems for women
and youth, among other challenges.
The meeting also adopted a statement of solidarity regarding the legal
dispute between the CNT-AIT in Spain and the CNT-CIT organization.
