Dear friends, dear comrades, we have been taking to the streets together
for almost 6 years now and we notice that the strategy of only takingour concerns to the streets remains questionable, both against the
climate crisis and against the shift to the right. We are not just
standing here against the climate crisis. We are standing here because
we know: climate protection is class struggle! ---- The AfD, as the most
reactionary expression of the current right-wing development, does not
simply deny the climate crisis out of ignorance. No - its rejection of
climate protection is interest politics for fossil capital. It defends
the fossil industry and the profits of corporations.
This type of politics is not unique to the AfD. All major parties pursue
a policy in the interests of capital. The result: a climate policy that
secures profits while the costs and burdens are passed on to the general
population.
More and more people who have a serious interest in combating the
climate crisis are realizing that corporate bosses and top politicians
cannot be persuaded to make fundamental changes by polite requests.
Their interests lie in their profits or in Germany as a business
location, and that means in capital interests despite all the
contradictions. Everyone can then stand behind Germany as a business
location - and it will stay that way as long as we don't change anything.
When we talk about capitalism, we mean a system that is not able to
provide the majority of people with a good life or even with the bare
necessities to survive, either in times of crisis or under "normal"
circumstances. A system that systematically exploits and destroys the
earth - while a few profit from it.
At the same time, we are experiencing an intensification of geopolitical
competition in which the climate crisis is not treated as a global
threat, but as a factor in the rivalry between states, war, rearmament
and increased competition - that is the context in which we are
fighting. And that is the context in which the rich spread their story.
It has long been known that these millionaires and billionaires are
responsible for the largest share of climate pollution, even in terms of
consumption, so it is all the worse when the discourse is shifted to the
idea that everyone should "simply" do without their cars a little more
and then the climate will be fine. It is certainly right that we should
all pay attention to our consumption, but it is all the more wrong if
this means that the excessive overconsumption of the rich is supported.
Or to put it another way: we are not rich enough to seriously change
anything through consumption.
The contradiction with the interests of workers is also clear with
regard to the interests of capital. Companies want to make as much money
as possible, for example, this means having SUVs built, because they
bring in the most profits. The fact that production and switching to
buses and trains is necessary and sensible does not change this. This
small example alone makes it clear that it will not be possible to get
the climate crisis under control without socializing the means of
production.
Climate protection is class struggle.
