Dear friends,

A devastating Russian drone strike just laid waste to our partner shelter in Ukraine, leaving 381 animals at serious risk. We must act fast before the unthinkable happens and they freeze to death or are killed by enemy soldiers.

The frontline in the war in Ukraine has crept closer and closer to our partner shelter. Now, the violence has reached its front door – with catastrophic consequences. The animals were bombed!

This is the inferno the animals had to endure when the shelling took place. Can you imagine the fear and despair they felt? Credit: Euro News

We have been helping Ukraine’s animal war victims since war broke out three years ago. As this brutal conflict dragged on, we watched in horror as the frontline came ever nearer to the no-kill haven run by our partner, Animal Rescue Khakiv (ARK).

Now, tragedy has struck - a missile struck the shelter, sending 170 goats, 60 sheep, 11 horses, two cows, two bulls, a donkey and a new litter of piglets scattering into the night as the shelter fell apart around them.

With war still raging, it is not possible to relocate the animals. Their only hope is to rebuild the shelter as soon as possible.

The animals have no choice but to trust us, and we must raise $5,000 (£3,860) so repairs can begin. If we tried to move the animals away from the fighting, there is a high chance of the team being attacked during the relocation. The shelter remains the safest place for the animals. With your help, we can turn it back into a haven for the animals.

Harsh winter weather is making it worse for the animals.

It is bitterly cold in Ukraine this winter – and with parts of the shelter destroyed, the animals are exposed to the elements. Fencing was also destroyed, and the team is worried that the animals will wander into the heart of the fighting, where they will likely be slaughtered by the enemy. Remember, nearly all these animals were rescued from other farms in the area that people fled from and situations of cruelty.

We promised to stand by Ukraine’s animals until the war is over, and we intend to keep that promise. But we can’t do it without your support.

Most of the sanctuary animals were rescued from abuse and cruelty, and were to spend the rest of their lives in this safe haven. We can still make that happen.

Please donate today so we can rush emergency funds to help repair the damage, ensuring the survival of hundreds of animal victims of war.
