Trump claims that imposing tariffs on imports from countries like Mexico, Canada, and China will help U.S. businesses and manufacturing. But in reality, they only lead to higher costs for everyday consumers and create confusion and friction along supply chains, putting a strain on families and businesses alike.
Tariffs are essentially taxes that U.S. businesses have to pay, and those costs are passed on to consumers. Prices are expected to rise on everyday items — fresh produce from Mexico, oil from Canada, and electronics from China. Tariffs are making things worse at a time when families can least afford it!
In addition to hurting consumers, tariffs are causing conflict between countries. Trump is making other countries feel threatened and insulted, leading to retaliatory tariffs that hurt consumers abroad and put the U.S. at dangerous odds with its allies.
