WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE FRANCE - news journal UPDATE - (en) France, UCL AL #358 - Culture - Read Rami Abou Jamous: Gaza Logbook (ca, de, fr, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Rami Abou Jamous, a Palestinian journalist, shares a magnificent Gaza

Logbook covering a period from February to October 2024. ----- His
testimony is precious, terribly moving. This work is an immersion into
the dramatic daily life of Gazans. ----- It is impossible to summarize
such a writing, filled with despair and hope. Everything is mixed,
intertwined, torn and broken, with the hope of the phrase "Hello
friends, still alive..." which so aptly sums up the ambivalence of this
interminable ordeal. ----- Rami Abou Jamous recounts the tragedies
endured by the population of Gaza, the authoritarian displacements that
drive entire populations to new, supposedly safe zones that turn out to
be nothing more than new traps. One can only draw a parallel with the
Jewish people who were displaced and ghettoized in Warsaw. The author
describes the genocidal process, the Gaza attack. The humiliations, the
endemic poverty, the destruction of social and religious ties. His
description of daily reality is filled with empathy for his loved ones,
his family... There is no hatred in his words.

He offers a story that exudes humanity and sensitivity. The writings are
not vehement, vindictive, or ideological. His description, in simple and
accessible language, provides a cold indictment of Israeli policy. He
invites us to try to grasp the despair and the greatness of this people.
The essential point lies "in the fact that Israel wants to take
advantage of the situation to do what it has not been able to do since
1848: expel the entire Palestinian population."

These opening lines, "I cannot protect my children from death," are a
terrible lesson in survival with dignity. Or these terrible statements:
"It sometimes pains me to see that people hope to hear something positive."

"We are not idiots, we are a conscious and educated people. We know very
well what you want... We have lost everything, except our sanity. They
want to take away our sanity and destroy our dignity, but it won't happen."
