As has been noted by many, the arrival of Donald Trump to the Presidency
has accelerated changes in the international scenario that have had
profound repercussions on the internal political life of various
countries. It therefore becomes impossible, in a publication like ours -
published monthly - to give an account of analyses and opinions even on
the topics of greatest interest. ---- Over time we reserve the right to
address them organically and above all we think the time has come to
make an effort to organically read the main lines and exit strategies
from globalization that capitalism is adopting. In other words, we must
try to draft an analysis of the phase, to use the traditional terms of
correct political jargon. These difficulties do not exempt us from some
initial, albeit summary, considerations relating to the new problems to
be addressed as priorities.
In foreign policy
As far as foreign policy is concerned, it is necessary to delve deeper
into where Europe is going and could go after the recent US repudiation
of imperial politics, to fully analyze the different phases that the
dying US empire is going through, when it decides to squeeze its
provinces to feed its senile decline. At the same time, it is necessary
to understand what alternatives Europe has and what its possible
relationships are with the Russian continent; what role it can have if
it manages to maintain or better assume a collective identity, in a
multipolar world, confronting giants such as China, India, and a group
of sub-powers and in any case the BRICS world, how it can and must
operate in a world that is now multipolar.
In domestic politics
In domestic politics, it is necessary to understand the right's
strategic project and implement a defense strategy at a tactical and
strategic level, immediately defending the attack on economic, social
and political freedoms, fighting inequalities, achieving dignified
living standards, defending the existence of health and school services,
preserving welfare structures that at least make poverty less harsh,
otherwise widespread, in a society increasingly verticalized in terms of
income and social conditions.
The construction of a strategy to overturn the balance of power passes
through the reactivation of the social elevator, which means offering a
perspective of improving the living conditions of each person starting
from a framework of maintenance and in many cases of necessary
restoration of violated freedoms, which certainly pass primarily through
greater social and economic justice, but also need to be comforted by
civil liberties and gender equality. This means having a simultaneous
attention both towards social justice and towards the salvation of
institutions, prospects of widespread well-being and the stimulation of
participation in the social life of all, the defense of the rights of
the person. The management of the political struggle at a tactical level
has no prospects and possibilities of success if it does not possess and
move to implement a credible and shared strategic project, in other
words if it is not capable of setting as an objective the vision of a
future society to be built.
For these reasons, it is necessary to forcefully increase the capacity
to influence the different items of the production factors, reducing the
weight of the cost of energy in favor of the valorization and
remuneration of work, fighting climate change and the dissipation of
natural resources, stimulating the participation of all in the
management of society, achieving effective equality in the distribution
of income, necessary for everyone to participate in social well-being.
Priorities and omissions
Having to make choices and establish priorities, we have decided not to
address first of all the issues used as a tool of mass distraction:
therefore, not to talk about the obvious persistence in government of
the Minister of Tourism who is too close a friend of the President of
the Senate to leave office, despite being accused of having defrauded
the State; not to discuss the illegal wiretapping of journalists and
social activists, considering that this practice has been in use for a
long time and that everyone is spied on and spies on everyone; not to be
surprised by the fact that a murderer, rapist, criminal, Libyan general,
who has concluded a criminal complicity contract with the State to
torture migrants is brought home with full honors, intercepted at the
exit of a football match; that a Minister of Justice, who is allegedly
in love with many Negroni hired on Sundays, fails to examine an arrest
warrant or in any case evaluates it with great euphoria and bad faith,
crushed in his armchair, by the English in which it is written; we are
not at all disconcerted by an undersecretary of justice who reaches
orgasm anticipating the possible asphyxiation of prisoners transported
by prison vans, who does not keep an official secret more than urine,
but frequents people who fiddle with a gun at Christmas. In any case,
these are events that, despite having political implications, denote the
misery of the debate and political confrontation in the country and
respond to the needs of a media circus that lives and feeds on its own
obscenities, not to mention the real problems of the country and of
ordinary people, operating these problems as a weapon of mass distraction.
A few words on the opposition
Even less do we consider it appropriate to deal with an opposition to
the government, which is in fact non-existent, which is blocked by a
thousand divisions and is characterized by insignificance, a lack of
initiatives, a lack of proposals, ambiguity regarding internal affairs
as well as foreign policy. It is silent on immigration policy, it has
forgotten the battle for the minimum wage, the ius soli, the fight
against undeclared work, corporate crises, precarious employment
contracts, increasingly lower wages, for some time it has even been
silent on the waiting list and the problems of healthcare. All the
opposition activity is sedimented in parliamentary chatter and in
proposing motions of no confidence that are known to be useless, while
the absence of the squares and streets is total, while the massacre of
deaths at work and in the workplace on construction sites continues at a
rapid pace.
What can we say about positions in international politics: stunned by
Trump's initiative, the left is silent on Gaza, expressing horror and
disappointment at the proposal to transform it into a fashionable
Riviera, but not saying any clear words about the massacre that
continues in Gaza, taking care not to define it as a genocide; it is
silent on the West Bank and the massacre of the Palestinian people that
continues; it is exalted by the victory of a government of Islamic
fundamentalists in Syria. It is indignant in defense of Zelensky and
Ukraine, a country taken as an example, a model of candid democracy,
forgetting that, similarly to Russia with which it is at war, it is an
autocracy in the hands of a group of illiberal oligarchs, nationalists
who are also quite fascist, who have taken advantage of martial law to
divide the country and offer it up to the West to plunder, profiting
from the war profits. Instead of taking advantage of the crisis of the
narrative, built by the United States and England to sabotage Nord
Stream Two and the European and German economy, above all, and to try to
collapse the Russian state, undermining its security, they refuse to
examine the evolution of events and to acknowledge that Ukraine is a
civil war that has been underway since at least 2014 and that therefore
the conflict is the sick fruit of a clash desired by Ukrainian and
Russian nationalism, on which economic strategies of exploitation of
resources are grafted, built thanks to the criminal activity carried out
by England that pursued the division of Europe and its economic and
social crisis. If it did so, it would have to admit that the special
operation is only a criminal stage of a complex path aimed at hitting
the peoples of Europe. It would have been wise for the parties of the
reformist left to seize the opportunity to free themselves from being
dragged into taking warmongering positions, into arguing that war is an
instrument for resolving international conflicts, without realizing that
by doing so they have not only made themselves complicit in the
destruction of the international system of guarantees built through
international law, but have also fundamentally denied one of the
constitutive genetic elements of their being parties that defend the
interests of workers; this is because a party of the left that accepts
war between armies and between states as an instrument for resolving
international disputes is the enemy of workers, since it is the working
classes that are called upon to fight in the event of war, since those
who have money and power find a thousand ways to escape mobilization and
war and to safeguard their lives and escape conflict. If they had done
so, they would have overcome one of the main problems of their crisis:
their warmongering degeneration that makes them unrecognizable in the
eyes of those who should support them and who see in their sharing of
the war a founding element of the identity of interests that binds them
to all the other parties, that homologates them and that leads voters to
indifference, in the belief that there are no differences and that one
party is as good as the others. This is where their crisis and the
crisis of representation come from, this is one of the reasons for the
fall in participation in democratic life that leads to social
degradation and the loss of rights, to the numbing of consciences, to
the sharing of violence and abuse, to the triumph of oppression.
In other words, a missed opportunity!
