Italy is at a standstill, between promises, lies and no change. The
king, sorry, the queen, has disappeared from the radar, at most you hearher every now and then with some twittering on social media. She is not
seen in Parliament, she has completely disappeared and refuses to
frequent it, perhaps thinking that the reform of the premiership has
already come into force and that therefore the Prime Minister has no
duty to report at least to Parliament. ---- While, lost, people wander
around discount stores looking for the lowest price to be able to take
home something to eat and make ends meet, and they avoid shops like the
plague, because they are too expensive, they recycle old clothes, they
look around desperately, looking for additional work, even if it is
illegal, because the salary is not enough. We watch with concern and
dismay as unpaid bills pile up due to the rising costs of water,
electricity and gas while the government declares that everything is
fine, that employment is rising, that the economy is doing better than
ever and that the clouds of tariffs imposed by Trump that are looming on
the horizon will be contained and made ineffective, thanks to the good
offices of the Hamlet-like and silent queen, who wags her tail
obsequiously at the Court of King Trump. And to think that for the
twenty-fourth month industrial production is falling, the cost of money
is high, investments by entrepreneurs, frightened by what is happening,
are blocked, uncertainty reigns supreme. The conditions of healthcare
are increasingly disastrous so much so that a Local Health Authority
accumulates 3,000 reports without providing answers, in Trapani, with
the result of condemning a hundred cancer patients to die, and all this
due to a lack of personnel. Emergency rooms are increasingly
understaffed and without doctors and nurses, hospital services are
functioning less and less and worse, due to the depletion of human and
material resources.
Education is a disaster and there is a lot of chatter about programs and
teaching, about the restoration of discipline, about the need to make
suffering and humiliation prevail as tools of education, allowing school
structures to decay and teachers' salaries to be among the lowest and
most humiliating in Europe.
The government's only concern seems to be to distribute positions and
roles among the families and relatives of politicians in power,
replacing skills with clientelistic affiliation, bringing to fruition a
reform of justice that could not be more botched, while ministers and
undersecretaries under investigation remain in their positions, saved by
a pseudo-guaranteeism that awaits the third degree of judgment, while
nothing is done to ensure that trials are conducted in the shortest
possible time, compatible with the guarantees of justice for all those
under investigation. To deal with the problems, the government knows no
other way than to approve new laws that introduce new crimes, causing
the proliferation of people awaiting trial in crowded prisons where
suicide is the last chance to escape the desperation of an inhuman
condition.
Futile crimes and the result of liberticidal behaviors are added to the
repressive arsenal that the State has at its disposal to hit the weak
and leave the powerful unpunished, allowing itself the luxury of leaving
free international criminals who have committed clear crimes, but in the
name of abject rulers who have no qualms about hitting the weakest and
defenseless, invoking the defense of sacred borders. Enormous sums are
spent in the name of the fight against illegal emigration, while in
reality the legislative mechanism of the Bossi Fini is aimed at
producing the illegality of the presence of migrants, who return to
clandestinity when they lose their jobs, to feed a black labor market
that balances the legal labor market, to reduce wages and labor costs.
A non-existent opposition
Called to act as a barrier to the excessive power and the spread of the
strength of the right-wing parties should be an incapable and weak
opposition, unarmed, devoid of ideas and programs, but also of simple
slogans, capable of mobilizing the masses that it claims to represent,
divided. Some time ago it seemed you had found an agreement on the
request for a minimum wage, for a decisive intervention to remove the
problem of the waiting list and strengthen public health. For some time
now even this noble purpose has been lost and all we hear about is
ineffective motions of no confidence in the political figure of the
moment, as if we did not realize that by now public opinion has resigned
itself to the fact that anyone who holds a government position is by
axiomatic definition an imbecile, a structural incompetent.
It would take imagination and courage to understand that we can get out
of this situation by putting aside divisions by seeking a compromise on
a program made up of positive proposals, which take charge of the
problems of the present and above all of everyday life, which suggest
and propose remedies to the most urgent problems, ranging from that of
wages, which absolutely must be re-evaluated and made sufficient to
respond to at least the most basic needs, to that of housing, to that of
services, starting with healthcare.
In a society that is aging at an increasing rate, we need to think about
support not only in terms of pensions, but also in terms of welfare for
the elderly and at the same time invest in young people and in work,
because only from the growth of employment and from a fairer and more
progressive tax system can the resources necessary to support welfare
tools come, to strengthen education, to make it permanent also to
accompany the transformations of the labor market with training and
constant updating of the workforce that enables it to respond
effectively to market demands.
If the opposition parties intend to give an answer to the right and
remove the causes of the ongoing consensus towards the government, which
unlike what usually happens, is slow to come, they must be capable of
assuming a truly reformist position and intervene on the distribution of
income, on the qualified relaunch of employment, on the operability and
popular trust. Also to address pressing and unavoidable problems such as
the hydrogeological instability that is a direct consequence of climate
change. The fight against war seems to have made us forget the urgency
of intervening in a rational and thoughtful way on the climate issue
without looking to green politics for the tool to relaunch the economy,
but distinguishing between the measures needed to contain climate change
and the need for innovation to produce greater profit.
We should not believe that we have overcome the problem of relaunching
the economy by increasing war production and shifting public and private
investments to rearmament, also because history shows that once the
weapons are built the next step is their use which, especially
considering nuclear armament, would be devastating.
A danger to avoid
It would be devastating for the reformist parties to leave the current
government and the right with a monopoly on a policy of peace and accept
the exchange that the international mainstream is proposing to them,
that is, to join and support the coalition of the so-called willing, in
favor of continuing hostilities in Ukraine and to obtain in exchange
support for returning to government. Perhaps by accepting this exchange
they would achieve the goal of being brought back to the halls of power,
in exchange for their wicked choice, but more likely they would do
nothing but hand over the country to the government of the right for
many, many years.
In our opinion, one of the main causes of the repeated defeats of the
left has been the loss, the disorientation of its own identity, which
occurred by chasing the choices of ordocapitalism, offering to manage
the accumulation of capital and profit better than the right, with the
result that while a part of the electorate preferred the original to the
copy, at least half of those entitled to vote abstained and did not
participate, believing it was useless to do so. It has happened at
times, as recently in France and even more so in Germany, that the
electorate has mobilized in a last-ditch attempt to save what can be
saved to face the fascist and Nazi insurgency, but one wonders: for how
much longer!
Everything tells us that the opportunities are decreasing and that we
must not waste time, getting rid of the infected subjects who pollute
the air and prevent a clarifying debate in the eyes of the electorate.
We must therefore avoid resorting to mediation, avoiding ambiguities
such as that recently offered by the Democratic Party to the European
Parliament, accepting and allowing supporters of the conflict at all
costs to have citizenship and representation when they know full well
that a large part of their voters are against the conflict and the war.
Our role
As far as we are concerned, we are aware of representing a critical
voice that is marginal today, of being a collective of class struggle
militants who are approaching the end of their life journey, but we
believe it is appropriate and honest to leave a trace of the method of
analysis, so that those who want to do so can pick up the torch of hope,
convinced as we are that the class struggle is a need of humanity and
that the message and the contribution will be collected anyway because
the need for social justice and freedom is irrepressible, it is a human
necessity that lives in the history of man and woman.
New people will come, other women and other men will interpret the needs
of the masses and will propose to understand what is happening around
them and it is good that they find traces of a critical thought, of a
method of analysis so as not to have to start from scratch, as happened
to our generation that had to reconstruct a large part of the historical
memory, erased by the class enemy. As long as we can, we will do
everything to continue to give at least our contribution of analysis.
