This system, namely capitalism, has always meant exploitation, poverty
and oppression for us, who have no choice but to sell our labor power tomake a living. The conditions we are in now are pushing our limits of
endurance. While transportation, health, shelter, electricity, water and
basic necessities are increasing day by day, the wages we receive are
almost stagnant. The rate of increase made to the minimum wage in 2025
was decisive not only for minimum wage earners but also for all workers.
The increase made to public workers and retirees was an indication that
this system is increasingly condemning more people to live below the
poverty line.
On the other hand, although unemployment is shown as below 10 percent,
when those who have lost hope of finding a job and seasonal or
short-term workers are added, the real rates are much higher than those
announced. Even though we already have jobs, we spend every day in fear
of becoming unemployed. The problems we experience are endless.
Dying while working is not destiny!
We are condemned to the worst working conditions so that the bosses can
add to their wealth. Even simple work safety measures are seen as
additional costs by the bosses, so we are injured, disabled, suffer from
occupational diseases and die in work-related accidents. The fact that
at least 1,897 workers lost their lives in work-related accidents in
2024 alone is the clearest indication that the contradiction between us
and the bosses is a struggle for survival. Even if the powerful want it
that way, we cannot and should not accept all of this as fate.
It is IN OUR HANDS to change all of this!
In some workplaces, employees are trying to improve their working
conditions, increase their wages and defend themselves against the
bosses' attacks through physical strikes and resistance. These struggles
give us all hope and show us a way out. However, the general and
militant struggle we need has not yet emerged. In conditions where
unemployment is increasing, the fear of becoming unemployed and the
oppressive policies of the government cause many of us to remain silent.
Although there is a growing anger inside us, ready to explode at any
moment, a sense of helplessness prevails in conditions where large
segments are unorganized. However, this will not and cannot continue
like this!
Starting with fundamental issues such as increasing our wages and
improving our working and living conditions, turning things to our
advantage can be possible by uniting with the people we come into
contact with, showing solidarity with each other and struggling together
in our workplaces, neighborhoods, schools, universities, wherever we
are. The first step in this direction is to discuss our problems with
our colleagues in our workplaces or with other workers in our living
spaces, to start discovering collective answers to the crisis based on
class solidarity, mutual aid and direct action, and to organize direct
democratic, grassroots unions in these places. The seeds of the
struggles we need to achieve more and fundamentally change this system
of exploitation will only be sown through such grassroots organizations.
Let's organize together everywhere against this system of exploitation
that makes our lives unbearable. The time has come to raise our voices.
If not today, when? If not us, who?
