WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE ITALY - news journal UPDATE - (en) Italy, UCADI #196: The word to the square (ca, de, it, pt, tr) [machine translation]

In this last month the word seems to have returned to the square and at

least two large demonstrations have characterized the Italian news. The
first organized by the mainstream "liberal" and the second by a group of
political parties and associative forces attributable to the left. These
were two squares with contours partly similar and partly different with
respect to their composition: the first square wanted by the journalist
Michele Serra, saw the convergence of the so-called Europeanist
parapacifists, supporters of Ukraine, but critical of the Israeli
intervention in Gaza, quietly, without much enthusiasm and being careful
each time to reiterate the condemnation of Hamas and support for the
Palestinian people; the second wanted by the 5 Star Movement for peace
and against the rearmament of Europe, certainly critical of Israel, at
the very least doubtful of the reasons of Ukraine.

The Piazza del Popolo demonstration

Presented as a spontaneous, almost extemporaneous initiative, the first
demonstration is actually part of a series of initiatives adopted at a
European level by supporters of the West, critical and shocked by the US
disengagement from the proxy war waged by the Ukrainians against the
Russians. These people are essentially the heirs of the American
Democrats' policy who, deprived of the support of the parent company now
in the hands of the Maga movement, crowd the corridors of the Western
European establishment and beyond, smelling the putrefaction of their
power and clinging to a catalogue of the values of liberal democracy
that they themselves have no qualms about questioning and transgressing
when it comes to keeping their power intact.
Disconcerted, they looked around their countries and realised that they
were increasingly alone, increasingly isolated.
There are the Macronians who cling, desperately, to power, while their
rotting leader wastes away in the corridors of the Elysée, in a country
in free-falling economic crisis; there are the German Social Democrats
mourning the loss of their government, but determined to support the
institutional coup to change the Constitution once Parliament has
expired, in order to earn the status of future minority members of the
Christian Social government coalition that will govern the country;
there is the self-styled Social Democrat Starmer who is doing everything
he can to act in continuity with his conservative predecessors in the
policies of support for Ukraine and war against Russia, even at the cost
of seeing his government quickly lose the compact support of the
electorate; there are the right-wing Dutch and Danish governments ready
to betray the anti-war electorate that voted for them; there are the
Baltics united in their anti-Russian hatred and the Poles bold
supporters of rearmament and of greater Poland. This is an axis strong
enough to impose the violation of the rule of law in Romania,
eliminating an unwelcome and dangerous candidate for the Presidency of
the Republic; to intervene in Moldova, rigging the elections and
eliminating an inconvenient regional President.
The difference with Italy is that in our country these presences are
still strong enough to take to the streets and demonstrate in society
and this is because the most voted among the opposition parties is
ambiguous, warmongering, pro-Ukrainian and incapable of expressing a
real position of condemnation of Israel and its policy of genocide. It
is therefore no coincidence that only in Italy has it been possible to
express a mass position, undoubtedly shared in support of Europe's
policy, although this is ambiguous: indeed, it is precisely this
ambiguity that has allowed both the aforementioned supporters of peace
and negotiations for Ukraine, and the supporters of the Palestinian
cause to participate in this demonstration and not distinguish
themselves from the warmongers who support intervention at all costs
until the victory of the West in Ukraine, and the supporters of Israel
always and in any case. To these people, we say that coherence would
require a battalion, if you prefer a regiment, to be formed by
journalists, opinion makers, influencers of all kinds, intellectuals,
singers, actors and so on who, chest out and belly in, regardless of any
ailment or impediment, marched together as volunteers on the Ukrainian
front: we would enthusiastically applaud their sacrifice and gain their
esteem, ready to attribute and pay them honor and glory. Their futurist
epigones, interventionists in the First World War, thought the same
things, but they had the courage to go to the front and fight, they did
not limit themselves, like them, to asking others to make war.

The demonstration in Via dei Fori Imperiali

A much more massive and participated demonstration, clearer in its
intentions, took place from Piazza Vittorio to Via dei Fori Imperiali.
Those sincere pacifists who had participated in the previous initiative,
sharing its clearest and most obvious intent, participated in it. But
the greater number of people present was due to the reappearance in the
square of people who had been staying at home or spending their time
differently for a long time, a sign that it was appropriate to pronounce
a clear refusal of war, a clear unavailability to arm themselves to
fight the name of their lords. The participants in that demonstration
had listened with horror to Mario Monti's reflection on the fact that
Europe is built in war and with blood, they are aware that the first to
pay in the event of war are the young, their children, and that they are
asked to arm themselves and go to war, but that the populations are not
spared. Those present in that square were very clear that war serves the
masters, that weapons, once built, are made to be used, that if you want
peace you must prepare peace, but if you prepare war, you will have war.
