A Sicilian and a Livorno art gallery have developed an interesting
project, which saw the involvement of some comrades from the Livorno
Anarchist Federation and the Sicilian Anarchist Federation, linked to
the artistic production of Renato Spagnoli, a Livorno painter who passed
away in 2019 at the age of 91 ---- Renato Spagnoli, together with other
young Livorno artists linked to our movement, including Mario Lido
Graziani, Renzo Izzi, Giorgio Bartoli and Renato Laquaniti, between 1963
and 1964 gave life to an interesting avant-garde artistic movement, the
Gruppo Atoma. The artistic group had its headquarters at the Livorno
Anarchist Federation, which was located at the time in via Ernesto
Rossi. The strong innovative characteristic and the high expressive
level contributed to making it an experience that became known and
appreciated beyond the local borders. Spagnoli then continued with his
artistic career obtaining important recognitions and appreciations,
always maintaining a deep emotional relationship with the anarchists of
Livorno and making his artistic talent available to support important
campaigns. In the 70s of the last century, for example, he participated
in the exhibition "Artists against the state massacre" organized by the
Tuscan Anarchist Groups in solidarity with the comrades hit by the
repression after Piazza Fontana.
The project, activated by the gallery owner Corrado Gugliotta of Modica
(Laveronica) with the collaboration of the Gian Marco Casini art gallery
of Livorno, wanted to significantly reconstruct the link between art and
anarchy that characterized the activity of Renato Spagnoli and thought
of doing so with the concreteness of a train journey, an experience of
space and time that will have a synthesis on May 1st in Sicily. A canvas
by Renato travels by train, accompanied by some anarchists from Livorno
and Sicily who will discuss art, anarchy, current events, culture,
leaving traces in a video documentation for collective enjoyment. A set
of emotions, memories, projects. And an artistic gesture. Because
nothing is more creative and concrete at the same time than anarchy,
than what constitutes its dream, its idea, its intuition and what is its
concrete realization, always innovative, always experimental, in
whatever form it manifests itself in our daily actions.
