🎷Coming Up At Toots

Bonjour à Toots ! Après une courte pause, nous voilà déjà repartis pour une saison de folie : pas moins de 11 concerts et jams par semaine s’enchaîneront du mercredi au dimanche sur notre petite scène ! Avec, le mardi, notre tournoi de blitz pour les amateurs d’échecs et les curieux, puis un repos bien mérité le lundi. Pour ce retour aux affaires : la légende Rick Margitza nous fait l’honneur de sa présence ce jeudi, en rejoignant le trio de Joachim Caffonnette pour une soirée qui s’annonce mémorable. Il reste quelques places, mais ne traînez pas ! Ensuite, deux jours dédiés à l’harmonica chromatique – il était temps, diront certains ! C’est vrai, mais il faut reconnaître que les courageux ayant osé reprendre le flambeau de Toots avec talent ne se bousculent pas au portillon. Vendredi : Laurent Maur rejoint le trio de Dominique Vantomme pour faire résonner l’orgue à bouche dans notre petite cathédrale du jazz. Samedi : Olivier Ker-Ourio, accompagné de Manuel Rocheman, rend hommage au Baron des Marolles avec Affinities, clin d’œil au mythique album que notre gloire nationale enregistra avec l’immense Bill Evans. Nos jams tardives vous attendent également vendredi et samedi en troisième partie de soirée. Et pour clore la semaine, le retour de notre série Nostalgia in Grand-Place le dimanche après-midi, où Joachim Caffonnette, Jean-Paul Estievenart et Géraud Portal rendront hommage au grand répertoire de Broadway en trio acoustique. À bientôt ! Groeten vanuit Toots! Na een korte pauze zijn we alweer terug voor een waanzinnig seizoen: niet minder dan 11 concerten en jams per week, van woensdag tot zondag op ons kleine podium! Op dinsdag organiseren we ons blitzschaaktoernooi voor liefhebbers en nieuwsgierigen, en maandag nemen we een welverdiende rustdag. Om te beginnen: de legende Rick Margitza komt deze donderdag op bezoek en voegt zich bij het trio van Joachim Caffonnette voor een avond die onvergetelijk belooft te worden. Er zijn nog enkele plaatsen vrij — wacht niet te lang! Daarna volgen twee dagen gewijd aan de chromatische mondharmonica – hoog tijd, zou je kunnen zeggen! En terecht, want weinigen hebben met zoveel talent het lef gehad om Toots’ erfenis voort te zetten. Vrijdag: Laurent Maur vervoegt het trio van Dominique Vantomme en laat het “orgel van de mond” weerklinken in onze kleine jazzkathedraal. Zaterdag: Olivier Ker-Ourio, samen met Manuel Rocheman, brengt een eerbetoon aan de Baron van de Marollen met Affinities, een knipoog naar het legendarische album dat onze nationale trots opnam met de grote Bill Evans. Onze late-night jams wachten ook op jullie op vrijdag en zaterdag als derde set. We sluiten de week af op zondagmiddag met de terugkeer van onze reeks Nostalgia in Grand-Place, waar Joachim Caffonnette, Jean-Paul Estievenart en Géraud Portal het grote Broadway-repertoire in een akoestisch trio zullen eren. Tot binnenkort! 🇬🇧 English Hello from Toots! After a short break, we’re back for a crazy season: no fewer than 11 concerts and jam sessions every week, from Wednesday to Sunday on our little stage! Tuesdays are for our blitz chess tournament, for both enthusiasts and the curious, and Mondays are a well-deserved rest. To kick things off: the legend Rick Margitza will join Joachim Caffonnette’s trio this Thursday for an evening that promises to be unforgettable. A few tickets are still available — don’t wait too long! Then, two days dedicated to the chromatic harmonica – about time, some might say! True enough, since few have dared to take up Toots’ legacy with such talent. Friday: Laurent Maur joins Dominique Vantomme’s trio to make the “mouth organ” resound in our little cathedral of jazz. Saturday: Olivier Ker-Ourio, accompanied by Manuel Rocheman, pays tribute to the Baron of the Marolles with Affinities, a nod to the legendary album our national treasure recorded with the great Bill Evans. Our late-night jams are also waiting for you on Friday and Saturday as a third set. We’ll close the week on Sunday afternoon with the return of our Nostalgia in Grand-Place series, where Joachim Caffonnette, Jean-Paul Estievenart and Géraud Portal will pay tribute to the great Broadway repertoire in an acoustic trio. Oliver Ker Ourio - Manuel Rocheman Affinities - Harmonica Days samedi 30 août - 19:30 and 21:30 Oliver Ker Ourio (p) ; Manuel Rocheman (p) One day, a friend offered Olivier Ker Ourio Affinity, the legendary album by Bill Evans with Toots Thielemans. This decisive discovery led him to the chromatic harmonica and shaped his journey as a jazz musician. In the lineage of the Belgian master but with a singular voice of his own, he has transformed this instrument into a true “mouth organ,” both lyrical and sensitive. Recorded live in the intimacy of jazz clubs, his close partnership with Manuel Rocheman gave birth to Affinities — a deep and free dialogue between piano and harmonica, at the crossroads of Bill, Toots, and their own universe. The Broadway musicals form the very essence of what we now call the Great American Songbook. For the return of our series “Nostalgia in Grand Place”, Joachim Caffonnette, Jean-Paul Estiévenart and Géraud Portal will perform timeless standards by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Henry Mancini, Richard Rodgers, Victor Young and Irving Berlin.
