WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE GREECE - news journal UPDATE - (en) Greece, Thessaloniki, APO: Solidarity rally for migrants (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

Thursday 3/7 at 8:00 PM at Agia Sophia Square ---- In recent years, the

management of the migration issue in Greece has evolved into one of the
darkest aspects of state policy. The treatment of refugees and migrants
has turned into a field of systematic repression, exclusion and
murderous violence. With the recent change in the leadership of the
Ministry of Migration and the replacement of the fascist Voridis by
Plevris, so that the government's intentions for managing the issue are
not misinterpreted in the slightest, the promotion of the new draft
"Migration and Asylum Code" in 2024, this policy is experiencing a new,
even harsher escalation.
This development is neither accidental nor isolated. It represents the
culmination of a state strategy that seeks to restrict the rights of
immigrants, accelerate deportations and strengthen the regime of fear,
surveillance and uncertainty. The new Minister of Immigration, Thanos
Plevris, continuing the policy of "zero tolerance" towards immigrants,
promotes a framework that intensifies repression and social exclusion.
His statements, which insist on accelerating deportations and tightening
asylum procedures, leave no doubt about the government's intentions. The
2024 bill constitutes the strictest legislative framework in recent
decades in the field of asylum and immigration. It introduces tough
criteria for accepting asylum applications and provides for fast-track
examination procedures that often bypass substantive control, leading to
mass rejections. At the same time, it allows administrative deportations
without the possibility of suspension, even when the lives of
individuals are in danger. These practices create a suffocating regime
of insecurity for asylum seekers, intensifying the feeling of exclusion
and threat.
The anti-immigration policy of the Greek state is not disconnected from
the murders of immigrants at the land and sea borders. The signing of
the agreement for the "extension" of the fence in Evros by 35km, in
order to further "upgrade" the armoring of the external borders of
Greece and by extension of Europe, was sealed by the murder of hundreds
of refugees and immigrants, off the coast of Pylos with 82 dead and 104
injured, highlighting in the worst way the role played by the rhetoric
of border security and the fences at the land borders. The push-backs,
that is, the illegal push-backs of immigrants, continue on a daily
basis, the shipwrecks and drownings of those attempting to cross the sea
borders continue unabated, the immigrants are piled up in concentration
camps and those who were "lucky" to stay in a relatively decent house
through some housing program, were thrown out onto the street. We
watched government representatives and the entire state apparatus
attempt to deny the New York Times reports that spoke of secret prisons
in Evros where refugees and immigrants are systematically tortured, as
well as the statements of the port police officer, who, thinking he was
off camera, directly admitted that there are murders at the sea borders
and that state repression even goes as far as killing immigrants. The
effort to exclude and displace migrants from the social fabric and city
centers has almost been completed with their immediate transfer to
concentration camps that operate as open prisons with inhumane living
conditions. People are packed into containers or tents without adequate
access to clean water, heating or sanitary facilities, while access to
healthcare and legal aid is almost non-existent. In Kara Tepe, Malakasa,
Korinthos and elsewhere, detainees live under a regime of permanent
uncertainty and of course the situation is worsened by the interruption
of support programs, the ban on leaving, constant surveillance and the
increased presence of police forces in these structures. And of course
the media in complete harmony with the state-government dictates do not
miss the slightest opportunity to spread racist poison into the social body!
All of this is unfolding within a broad framework of social
disintegration and political crisis, where corruption and entanglement
are an organic part of the state apparatus. Scandals like that of
OPEKEPE and the tragedy in Tempi reveal that the state is not simply
incompetent, but organically entangled in a web of interests that
sacrifices lives and dignity to maintain its power and profits.
The state and capital are letting us know for the thousandth time in the
worst way, that human life has absolutely no value whether you are a
poor worker, an immigrant or any member of the lower social class. The
lives of the oppressed continue to be sacrificed. In the long list of
deaths recorded in the midst of the pandemic, in the increasingly
frequent femicide and murder of Roma by the state's uniformed guards, in
the enormous state-capitalist crime of Tempi that cost the lives of at
least 57 of our fellow human beings, in the hundreds of fatal "work
accidents", in the countless murders of refugees and immigrants, at land
or sea borders, on rocky islets and in concentration camps. The list is
endless.
The need to organize and resist state and capitalist barbarity seems
anything but imperative. To defend our lives and dignity, there is no
other way than joint, horizontally coordinated, organized action from
below! Let us not get used to death, the daily routine of evictions,
evacuations and auctions, shipwrecks, feminicides, rapes. We stand
against war, Fortress Europe and the transnational anti-immigration
agreements, against the murders of refugees and immigrants, the fascist
policy of the Greek state, racism, nationalism and intolerance. Social
solidarity between oppressed foreigners or locals is our weapon against
the exploiters. Locals and immigrants, we resist the racist death
politics of the state and capital, we organize and fight together
against wars, poverty and the exploitation of man by man.

AGAINST THE NEW IMMIGRATION BILL, STATE REPRESSION, SOCIAL EXCLUSION AND
THE MURDER OF MIGRANTS
AGAINST WARS, BORDER AND STATE
WE ARE WITH THE IMMIGRANTS
SOLIDARITY IS THE WEAPON OF THE PEOPLE
