The aggression decided by the government of Israel against Iran began on
the night between June 12 and 13. The excuse is to prevent Iran from
having the atomic bomb. They called it Operation "Rising Lion" with a
clear reference to the symbol of the Pahlavi monarchy that ruled Iran
until 1979. A new meeting between the delegates of the Iranian
government and the US government was scheduled for Sunday, June 15 to
reach an agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue; what happened is an
attack on the negotiations, towards which the Israeli Prime Minister has
always been opposed. ----- This attack would not have been possible
without the support of the US armed forces: Israel confirms itself as
the killer whose hand the US administration is arming.
Iran promptly responded. To the hundreds of civilian deaths in Iran are
added other civilian deaths in Israel. This war was waged in the name of
security: just as for its security, Iran, according to the
Anglo-American and allied version, wants to equip itself with the atomic
bomb, so for its security, Israel wants to prevent Iran from having it
by all means. But the security of governments is the death of
populations. There is no safe shield, just as there are no smart bombs,
nor humanitarian wars
Despite talking about peace, the Trump administration is preparing and
waging war: preparing war against China, attacking Iran through the
intermediary of Israel.
As we close this issue, testimonies of the bombings are arriving from
anarchist comrades living in Iran. Testimonies that expose the falsity
of Tel Aviv's propaganda as well as that of Tehran. Contrary to the
official Israeli version, it seems that hundreds of civilians have been
killed in the "targeted" bombings towards Iran and that at the same
time, beyond the rhetoric of the Islamic Republic, in Iranian cities
there are no adequate protocols or sufficient materials to help
civilians. These are also effects of Western sanctions that for years
have primarily affected the civilian population. In the risk that war
becomes normal, the comrades remember that Iranian society is crossed by
deep divisions. The majority hates the regime but does not want war,
suffers the situation and curses the government. There are supporters of
the regime, who ask for a harsh response against Israel. There are those
nostalgic for the authoritarian monarchy of the Shah who support Israel,
and would like total war in order to take power. There is a minority of
revolutionaries, against the Islamic Republic, against Israel and
against all states, who reject the simplistic logic of war and are
already active on the level of mutual support.
Even in Europe the comrades in exile from Iran have taken clear
positions against the war. Clearly condemning the Israeli aggression,
judging this attack a serious obstacle to movements in Iran. An obstacle
both for the feminist movement for liberation from patriarchy, and for
the workers' and working class movement, and for the movement against
tyranny. Because war reduces the possibilities of initiative of the
organized masses, who are instead the first victims of the bombings,
furthermore a war leads the regime to tighten its authoritarian grip and
strengthens the cohesion around the government of Tehran, both of its
internal supporters and its allies abroad. Hopes for freedom are erased
by the war and by Israeli bombs contrary to what is repeated in the
official media not only by the propagandists of Tel Aviv but also by the
Iranians from the television lounge who support the murderous dynasty of
the Pahlavi Shahs.
Can we do something to stop this war?
From June 24 to 26, the annual NATO summit will be held in The Hague,
in the Netherlands, to organize even better this policy of aggression.
The International of Anarchist Federations has launched a campaign,
which we have already reported on these pages. We invite
antimilitarists, pacifists, internationalists to mobilize for this first
meeting.
