Fear paralyzes. Fear increases irrational actions and thoughts; it often
prefigures the collapse of reason, making it a powerful force forreactionary policies. One need only observe the panic reflexes that grip
the French left with each announcement of the imminent arrival of the
far right at the gates of state power. Not that the far right represents
a real obstacle on the long and chaotic road to emancipation, but the
left is creating another one in its own way, just as beautifully done...
By calling for "a barrier" against the "fascist danger," it strangely
mimics what it claims to ward off. The left trembles-or pretends
to-before a far right that, as usual, is terrified and rants against
what it despises: foreigners, the poor, strikers, women, and above
all... the class struggle! And from this sense of fear, strange
analogies are sometimes born.
The exploitation of the reactionary threat is the left's last electoral
card up its sleeve, and a sign of its political disenfranchisement.
However, this cheap agitation will not blind us to what this left has
conceded for decades to the reaction it otherwise claims to be fighting.
On the "social terrain"*, on that of solidarity with foreign
proletarians or urban segregation and access to the city, as on many
other battlegrounds, the left has literally bowed down before its
supposedly declared enemy. Worse, it has adopted and legitimized its
obsessions, thereby claiming not to concede ground to it. From now on,
the left is "realistic" and intends neither to "welcome the world's
misery" nor to give in to the "laxity" and danger now represented, in
its eyes, by the working classes that have escaped it. It supports the
"republican police," loves "business," covers city streets with video
surveillance cameras, funds municipal police forces, loves the homeland
and the military, and gets married... sometimes even with great pomp in
church!
Among other monstrosities, this left has given birth to Macronism. A
complete incarnation of the nothingness and insignificance of a class
ready to do anything to maintain its position, as it proved during the
Yellow Vest revolt. Macronism is merely a post-modernized avatar of
reaction. Its association with the historical far right points it
straight to the end of the road(1).
Difficult times lie ahead for the exploited, here and elsewhere, and
hope will not emerge from the ballot boxes of bourgeois democracy. Its
purpose has never been to emancipate proletarians from their chains, but
to keep them there in the name of the sacrosanct capitalist relations of
production. From the heart of struggles, emancipatory forms of social
organization can emerge. This path is fraught with pitfalls, sometimes
difficult to follow, but it is the only one that breaks the isolation
that feeds demagogues of all stripes. It is in the streets, in
struggles, through strikes that we will build a common future, certainly
not by re-elected by a so-called "left-wing majority in the National
Assembly"!

*For a long time now, the left has no longer spoken the language of
"class struggle," replacing it with that of "partnership and social
dialogue"...
