🎷 This Week at the Toots

Salut à Toots ! Cette semaine, rue des Chapeliers, on ne va pas s’ennuyer ! 🎷 Ce soir, c’est le saxophoniste catalan Furmi Gomez qui prendra les rênes de la jam. 🎹 Jeudi, après le piano bar assuré par le toujours très inspiré Casimir Liberski, place à un trio qui swingue comme il faut avec Julien Gillain, Andrew Bolton et Tom Lambrecht. 🔥 Vendredi, sortie du deuxième album de Mazzle, un trio clavier/sax/batterie qui ne cache pas avoir puisé son inspiration dans l’Elastic Band de Joshua Redman… avant d’évoluer vers un son bien à eux. Vincent Thekal lancera la late jam dans la foulée. 🎺 Samedi, la trompettiste Pauline Leblond s’entoure de l’alto d’Alex Tripodi, de la guitare du bien trop rare Quentin Liégeois et de la batterie du serviteur du swing Matthias de Waele pour explorer le répertoire des compositions de l’ère Hard Bop — souvent bien plus délicates que ce que le nom du style pourrait laisser penser. Sylvain Debaisieux ouvrira la late jam session et en profitera pour fêter son anniversaire ! 🎶 Dimanche, Joachim Caffonnette invite Jean-Paul Estiévenart à célébrer le génie de Bud Powell, avant de laisser place à une soirée pleine de soleil, de groove et de bonne humeur avec le chanteur et cavaquiniste capverdien Tchala Almeida ! Un moment haut en couleurs, entre rythmes dansants et énergie communicative — parfait pour terminer la semaine sur une note festive et chaleureuse. 🌴✨ Hallo bij Toots! Deze week, in de Rue des Chapeliers, staat er weer heel wat moois te gebeuren! 🎷 Vanavond neemt de Catalaanse saxofonist Furmi Gomez de leiding over de jam. 🎹 Donderdag, na de piano bar met de altijd geïnspireerde Casimir Liberski, is het tijd voor een trio dat heerlijk swingt: Julien Gillain, Andrew Bolton en Tom Lambrecht. 🔥 Vrijdag vieren we de release van het tweede album van Mazzle, een toetsen/sax/drums-trio dat duidelijk geïnspireerd werd door Joshua Redman’s Elastic Band… maar ondertussen een heel eigen sound heeft ontwikkeld. Vincent Thekal opent daarna de late jam. 🎺 Zaterdag brengt trompettiste Pauline Leblond een schitterende band samen met Alex Tripodi op altsax, Quentin Liégeois op gitaar (veel te zelden te horen!) en Matthias de Waele op drums, om het repertoire van de Hard Bop-periode te verkennen — vaak subtieler dan de naam doet vermoeden. Sylvain Debaisieux start de late jam session en viert tegelijk zijn verjaardag! 🎶 Zondag nodigt Joachim Caffonnette Jean-Paul Estiévenart uit om het genie van Bud Powell te vieren, gevolgd door een avond vol zon, groove en good vibes met de Kaapverdische zanger en cavaquinhospeler Tchala Almeida! Een kleurrijk feest vol dansbare ritmes en aanstekelijke energie — de perfecte manier om de week af te sluiten met een glimlach. 🌴✨ Hello from Toots! This week on Rue des Chapeliers, there’s plenty to get excited about! 🎷 Tonight, Catalan saxophonist Furmi Gomez takes the lead of the jam session. 🎹 Thursday, after the ever-inspired Casimir Liberski’s piano bar, get ready for a trio that truly swings with Julien Gillain, Andrew Bolton, and Tom Lambrecht. 🔥 Friday, we celebrate the release of Mazzle’s second album — a keys/sax/drums trio clearly inspired by Joshua Redman’s Elastic Band, yet with a sound entirely their own. Vincent Thekal will kick off the late jam right after! 🎺 Saturday, trumpeter Pauline Leblond joins forces with Alex Tripodi on alto, the too-rarely-heard Quentin Liégeois on guitar, and swing master Matthias de Waele on drums to explore the rich repertoire of the Hard Bop era — often more delicate than its name suggests. Sylvain Debaisieux will open the late jam session and celebrate his birthday at the same time! 🎶 Sunday, Joachim Caffonnette welcomes Jean-Paul Estiévenart for a tribute to the genius of Bud Powell, followed by a night bursting with sunshine, rhythm, and good vibes with Cape Verdean singer and cavaquinho player Tchala Almeida! A colorful, dance-filled celebration full of infectious energy — the perfect way to wrap up the week with joy and groove. 🌴✨

Nostalgia In Grand Place : Bud Powell - Tribute dimanche 19 octobre - 16:00 Joachim Caffonnette (p) ; Jean-Paul Estievenart (tr) ; Jasen Weaver (b) ; Armando Luongo (dr) Alongside Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and his close friend Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell stands as one of the founding fathers of be-bop. A troubled genius, scarred by a brutal police beating that triggered lasting mental health struggles, he left behind a body of deeply inspired compositions, several of which became some of the most played standards in the jazz repertoire. Today, Joachim Caffonnette presents a selection of works by this giant of the piano and of be-bop, joined by a stellar band, with the themes carried by the trumpet of Jean-Paul Estiévenart.
