WORLD WORLDWIDE EUROPE CZECH - news journal UPDATE - (en) Czech, OAFed: Letters to Prison (ca, de, it, pt, tr)[machine translation]

We are reprinting a report from the Ostrava cell of the Dekonstrukce

collective, which was published on the AF website. ---- On Thursday,
July 24, the Ostrava cell of Dekonstrukce, in cooperation with the
Anarchist Federation, organized a solidarity event in the Nibiru
gallery, which focused on writing letters to anarchist and anti-fascist
prisons in Europe. Before the letter-writing itself, the history of the
Anarchist Black Cross (hereinafter referred to as ABC from the English
Anarchist Black Cross) was introduced and individual historical examples
of the repression of anarchism were gradually presented. The Czech
environment and Operation Phoenix, which was already in full swing ten
years ago, were also contextualized. At the same time, the current
situation and activities of the Belarusian ABC and the Russian ABC
Moscow, which are currently experiencing severe repression and whose
membership had to leave their homes and emigrate abroad, were recalled.

The introduction was followed by a few tips on how to write such
letters, what to avoid and what to mention, and then we finally came to
the main content, namely the actual writing of the letters. The writers
chose the prison from a compiled list, which contained updated data
about the prisoners, a brief description of their case and information
about their hobbies. The letters were written individually and in small
groups. The participants made the letters matter, usually one A4 was
written, sometimes more than that. For safety and to maintain anonymity,
the senders did not leave any contact information. A laptop with a
translator into other languages was also available, and in the case of
Russian prisons, if the writers did not speak Russian, a translator was
recommended, since Russian prisons only accept texts in Russian. A total
of eleven letters were written: three to the United Kingdom, three to
Italy, three to Russia, and one each to Germany and Turkey. Twenty
people participated in the event.

There was a friendly atmosphere throughout and we enjoyed vegan treats,
namely buns and cookies, and reading material from the Anarchist
Federation and Deconstruction distro was available for purchase
throughout the event. Afterwards, there was space for networking, free
discussion, and fun, during which we even heard praise for organizing
something like this. The event was a success and we hope that future
Ostrava events will resonate with a wider public.
