Since August 20, Israel has launched an offensive to regain control and
occupy the Gaza Strip, despite a 60-day truce agreement accepted by
Hamas. This offensive pursues the dream of the Zionist far-right, openly
echoed by Trump: to expel the residents of Gaza and reinstate settlers.
Some 320,000 people have fled northern Gaza in recent weeks; 650,000
people remain in Gaza City, which Israel has decided to reoccupy. This
operation could prove to be a trap for the IDF. While the Palestinian
resistance has been weakened, the occupier continues to fail to destroy
it. As Israel has acknowledged, Hamas has rebuilt its forces in several
areas where the Zionist state thought it had eliminated it.
Several attacks have taken place since the spring, most recently a major
offensive on August 20 against an Israeli base. The reoccupation of Gaza
could well set in motion a spiral conducive to guerrilla strategies and
operations through the piles of ruins, alleys, and tunnels, systematic
traps for popular resistance in so-called "asymmetric" wars[1].
A deadly business plan
The weight this asymmetry has assumed is no accident. Israel has never
succeeded in destroying the resistance of the Palestinian people: it is
through division and the recruitment of proxies, by exploiting poverty
and hunger, that Israel now hopes to achieve this. The army and the Shin
Bet pay, arm, and protect militias of mercenaries, drug traffickers,
fugitives, sex offenders, and even former members of the Islamic State.
These militias carry out the dirty work of the occupation: kidnappings,
targeted assassinations, looting of humanitarian aid, and intelligence
gathering in exchange for money, territorial control, and even land
permits for collaborators.
The leadership's desire to destroy the resistance through mass death and
genocidal acts is avowed. On September 17, the Haaretz newspaper
revealed that Bezalel Smotrich, Minister of Settlements, declared at the
Israeli real estate professionals' conference that "the Gaza Strip will
become a real estate bonanza[...]we have spent a lot on this war, so we
must decide how the profits will be distributed[...]I'm not joking: a
business plan drawn up by our most competent experts has been placed on
President Trump's desk"[2].
As proof, one should never take the fascists' statements as mere
bluster, Trump's "Riviera" plan is seriously considered. Once the
conquest is complete, delegating the remaining Bantustans to mafia
proxies or notables is a classic colonial strategy. Therefore, the
belated recognition by France and the United Kingdom on September 22 of
a Palestine that has perished due to their complicity and that of our
media borders on shameful.
On the ground, the Palestinian resistance is fighting inch by inch
against these plans of extermination and colonization. Revolutionaries
around the world must support this relentless struggle of a people for
survival and liberation! In the face of colonial barbarity, Palestine
will free itself from its chains.
