Sergio Mattarella, the Umarell who claims to be the President of the
Republic, never misses a platform to attend and share his pearls ofwisdom. On Sunday, September 7th, for example, he attended the
canonization of Acutis and Frassati, even from the steps of St. Peter's
Basilica. On Friday the 5th, he appeared at the Cernobbio Forum with a
statement that, like a true Umarell, seemed to come from the planet
Papalla. For those who don't know, the Cernobbio Forum is a gathering of
brains, graduate-level clerks of the bourgeoisie, who dispense advice to
capitalists and government officials on how to better screw us, enrich
themselves further, and increase their domination at the expense of
society and nature.
In short, to make a long story short, Mattarella addressed these good
people and, with the utmost gall, declared that "The European Union
(...) has never sparked a conflict, has never initiated a trade dispute.
On the contrary, it has facilitated agreements and deployed peacekeeping
missions."
What Mattarella didn't say is that this happened (perhaps...) because
the European Union isn't a real state; it lacks an army and even the
Union's financial instruments to create one.
The current European Commission's policy aims to put an end to all this
by creating common armed forces and even a common public debt to finance
them; and it does so by humiliating that simulacrum of representative
democracy that is the European Parliament, with measures taken from the
Brussels leadership in agreement with NATO and the main European
governments.
If, instead of fictional states, we focus on real governments, such as
those within the European Union, we see that wars have not been lacking.
Without going back a hundred years, when much of the world's landmass
was colonized by European powers, since the establishment of the
European Community and then the European Union, various governments have
committed acts of aggression against other European countries and those
on other continents. Consider, for example, the war of aggression
unleashed by the United Kingdom against Argentina over possession of the
Falkland Islands, an archipelago off the coast of South America and
almost thirteen thousand kilometers from London; and then the attacks on
Yugoslavia (1999), the aggression against Afghanistan (2001), Iraq
(2003), and Libya (2011), not to mention the military support for many
non-European governments fighting their own peoples to defend the
privileges of multinational corporations.
Mattarella's declaration speaks of a world that does not exist, of peace
between governments bearing heavy responsibilities, in solidarity and
complicity with humanity's worst murderers. The attitude of European
governments and the Union toward the state of Israel is a case in point.
The wealth, democracy, and peace of Fortress Europe are built on the
massacres of populations and the plundering of resources outside the
Union; the people of so-called Françafrique know this well.
The peace the republic's resident speaks of is dripping with blood.
Those who oppose the militarism of the European Union and its individual
member governments must also take responsibility for what Europe has
been and still is in the eyes of the majority of the world's population.
Meanwhile, it would be a good idea for Mattarella to take some time off,
in a nice retirement home, along with the clique that surrounds him.
